Does anyone use poa ?,other than on a ferry , waiting round for hours to be tipped at different rdc is messing my wtd up , putting tacho on poa doesn’t affect rest/break period if I’m not mistaken

I assume you’re asking if it’s OK to use POA while waiting to be loaded/unloaded.
If you know roughly how long you’ll be waiting you can use POA if you want to.
POA does not count as working time so it does have an affect on breaks in that it pushes back the time you need your next break.
The answer to your question is that I personally never used POA but believe some drivers do use it when waiting at RDCs.
If you’re going to use POA be aware that digital tachographs wrongly count POA as break and will rest the driving time shown on the tachograph display, for this reason you will need to keep a record of your driving time.
That’s exactly my point , had my tacho on poa for hour and half while waiting , already had my 15 break then drove off and boom .lost 2 hours driving time , ■■■■■■■■■■■■■

It’s great when you want to rake in the hours.
Without it people wouldnt be able to do 60+ hours a week.
If your never at risk of going over your weekly wtd though you do not need it.

Legally you had not lost any driving time, if you use POA it’s up-to you to keep a record of your driving time and breaks because the tachograph will wrongly reset the driving time on the tachograph display.

And then I got it flashing “driving time reached “ for couple of hours , they should work correctly when installed

Never use it, dont ever intend to either.
I use it most days especially waiting to load Gas at Immingham this week. Easy to keep track of on paper, yes it can incorrectly resets your driving time, but you don’t lose it.
If it doesn’t suit you, then use break. Neither mode counts as working time so fill your boots with whatever flicks your switch so to speak.
Yeah, that is what happens. There was another thread about this not so long ago. It resets your driving on the display, but when downloaded your driving won’t have been reset.
Whenever you put in on POA in slot 1, note down either driving accumulated or driving remaining. You then know you will need to stop and have a break accordingly later on, no matter what the tachograph says.
You would think that the tachograph would know which slot the card is in and operate accordingly, but no.
Known as the…
Paul Daniels ‘now that’s magic’ button because it literally makes time disapear.
Only a half-wit could come up with a system that say’s if you’re bouncing down the road in the passengers seat for 45 minutes, it counts as a break. But, if you’re sat stationary fast asleep or chilling out with yer white socks over the steering wheel reading the Racing Post, you’re not having a break.

They work the way the EU commission specified them to work so you either live with the shortcomings or don’t use POA.
As said above if you get paid for breaks use break instead of POA.
Sorry but those are your only alternatives.
on poa, keep an eye on it and just put it on other work for a minute then back again before 44mins shows to stop it showing that your drive time has re-set (or before 29 mins if you have already logged a 15) Doesnt help if you are imprisoned in a waiting room but if it was on break it would properly re-set the drive time anyway.

With you there Tachograph completely!
Don’t know about other European countries, but the problems that it caused as stated,
is one of the reasons it’s not used at all in France.

Which is precisely the reason I DON’T use it. 60hrs even including breaks is unacceptable in the 21st Century, even 48hrs most of the population would deem to be ridiculous.
If PoA didn’t exist then when the WTD came in we’d have had the 20%+ wage rises that companies were bandying around in the run up to the WTD introduction before the PoA was negotiated with the government by the unions. So you’d have the same wage working 48hrs that you did for working 60hrs. For those of us who think the wages are crap for the hours we work and the hours we work are ridiculous you can thank the FTA, the RHA, URTU and the rest of the haulage associations and unions for the existence of the PoA.

+1…
Add to that we lost another 12 hours off when they took away the 36 hours off at base rule. Never known any other industry want to do so many hours for such little money.
Poa is a tool for drivers who have all recorded breaks deducted a way to sit around waiting, to get paid whilst not racking up wtd working time unnecessarily, that’s it, if like the vast majority you don’t have all recorded breaks deducted, then forget it exists.
Before the wtd came in, they’d sit around on other work, then the wtd came in do they’d be disadvantaged to the majority that didn’t have all recorded breaks deducted.
So don’t get the hump with it, just understand they had to bring it it. It doesn’t allow you to work more hours as break doesn’t count as working time either
the SILLY POA was not for the driver it was so boss could get more out of driver. if you have clocked on for start of work your at work

EXACTLY. +1
The only time I use it is at the start of my shift when I put my card in, stick it on for 10mins and start doing my checks to signify that they are being done
