the tractor was sold in the early 1980’s just down the road, to the first small holding / farm on the left as you turn right towards bradbourne at ballidon lane end, the farm has recently been sold and a lad who was related to the owner has bought the david brown as he used to drive it as a kid, I have the job of blasting and painting it in the near future as joe the new owner intends to go to his wedding in style later this year!
the karman was never ours it was in storage with us for a few years.
Next time my old chap is at our house I will show him your pics, I remember having a lift many years ago in a half cab with my grandfather after we broke down on the a38 in one of the bedfords!

Yes Larry, the first Foden that I drove after passing my test. A powder tanker then of course, driven by the Late Ian Slater who lived in the same village as Moose! I ran the rough edges of the gears, first time I had used a 12 speed…

Hillhead Quarries Foden 3 way tipper.photo off flickr BedfordA1 site
i recall that foden well , driven by walter travis , malc travis’s dad. it was the first one hill head bought with the 12 speed box manual change . all the lorries came in primer , being painted by billy brooks and alf wilkinson in their own paint shop . they also insulated the bodies ready for the then new hot mix plant .
Hi, RIGBY, I remember a QUARRY UP our way near Corwen , Craig Grello , I think they were the same company there Fodens were the same colour and had 3 way tippers on 8 wheelers ? they looked a bit odd but seemed to do the job ,Just a bit of asless info Cheers Barry
the corwen quarry was one of hughes bros quarries along with hughes bros derbyshire granite (now lomas distribution depot )and hill head quarry where i served my time in the garage .
I rode through Glebe Mines site on the Mountain bike last night, looks fairly active still and wondered about the history of the place, also seems to be a lot of activity above Stony Middleton, the quarry roads are all bieng messed up for a new quarry apparently, wondered if it was all part of the same activity
i think they must have found a new deposit of fluorspar over towards backdate , i noticed a lot of new activity last time we were over that way .
Thanks for the info Dave ,Cheers Barry

Poor old Frank isn’t too good these days Dan, mind you he is now in his eighties I guess? Still gets down the yard though, mashing tea etc! He was at the Big Hole with Eric until it closed, he then went to Ballidon and Eric moved to Dene. Good pic, you keep dragging them out from somewhere.
Pete.
