PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION (Part 1)

I assume that the Volvo F7 in Beacon Hill Brick Company’s new colour scheme replaced the Guy Big J in the old colour scheme.
Personally i liked the old grey colour scheme better. Apparently the Guy had a ■■■■■■■ in it and was awful on fuel consumption
and therefore they did not like sending it too far from base as it was returning 4.5 mpg.

E.F.Phillips run several different makes of tipper from there Parkstone yard and here is one of there Leyland Octopus.

What a great looking Ford Transcon of Spanish haulier Palmera from Murcia heading for Truckline ferries out of Poole.

Classic looking DAF 2800 seen here heading into Poole. Cant read the name on the door, anyone recognise the motor ■■

ESS Foods Seddon Atkinson 400 seen here departing Poole. Looking at the length of the trailer i wonder if he has been doing
shop deliveries ? No idea where they were based ■■

T.Court haulage does not ring a bell, anyone know where they were based ■■

This FL10 was following the one above, anyone recognise it ■■

GB Express Mercedes leaving Poole. Used to ship through Poole alot and grew very quick. Called in the receivers in January 1998.

Hoyer Transport Volvo FL10 seen here parked outside Anchor Brewery which i dont recognise,so does anyone know where the pic
was taken ■■

Hi Dean great to see you back at last we all have missed you. The Atkinson Silver Knight as far as i know is still around in the nice Barrett livery and a photo of it working in CM Varleys livery from Darlington.

Hi Dean
The Borderer that Buzzer posted is ex John Coakes from Corfe Mullen. It was bought by a lad called Craig Farrant for show.

Beacon hills F7 and Guy ran together and Fred Eaton inherited both when he took over the transport from Beacon Hill. The Volvo was sprayed up Eaton blue but the Guy didn’t do anymore.
The crane on the Volvo was removable and it could be converted into an 8 wheel flat.
There is a picture on here of the Guy in Beacon Hill brown

Hi Dean
Although black and white this was Beacon Hills Guy in Brown livery

Hi Dean, reference the Chilton’s Transport photos.

I remember Gavin Smith mentioning that he worked Chilton’s Transport out of Bow back in the eighties. I thought that he had posted a couple of photos on the Astran/Middle East thread many years ago, which have now disappeared because of Photobucket.

After a bit of a search, I came up with this.

My first full time driving job with Chilton Transport of Bow, London blessed me with a Seddon Aktinson with a 240 Gardner in it. It smoked a bit  and used to “surge” on tick over, I can still hear it now !! almost 30 years on…but it used to pull those loads of reels and steel tube alright.! I remember the steering lock was better one way than the other, dont know if that had anything to do with the set up or the fitter !! I used to have to stand up to get it on full right hand lock.
Then after a while I got promoted to a Marathon 2.
Here is a picture of the old ■■■■■■■ my first trip to Oxford. Those were the days, eh lads.

Thanks Mark. I do like the colour scheme of Varleys and it looks a pretty decent size sleeper for an Atkinson.

You certainly have a good memory Rob. Talking of John Coakes i wonder how hes doing these days ? I assume he still lives on the lane and he
used to have some trucks he showed at rallies like the Marathon.Posted an article about him on page 403 that may intrest you.

Seem to remember you worked at Beacon Hill. I only went up there as a kid in my grandads motors so dont know much about there fleet
as they were normally out delivering. How many trucks did they operate ?

Heres the Guy in brown.

Thanks for the info “mushroomman” Talking of steering locks i had a Bedford TL which had no power steering and in tight spots it
certainly gave the arms a workout.

“Froggy55” Yes always intresting reading. Without doubt in the 1970s the DAF 2800 nearly always returned the best fuel consumption
on road tests, but would nearly always be the slowest around the test track. However it was a well known fact that DAF would set the
truck up specially for roadtests… I imagine the normal 2800s were on a a par with everything else at the time.

Hi Dean, thanks for that as I have never seen those two articles before.

I did my first trip for Dow to Diyarbakir in Turkey in 1980, when seven of us shipped out taking an oil pumping station to somewhere not far from the Iranian border, for The Aladdin Oil Company.

Thanks for confirming the name. Just had another look at the pic as never noticed the can holder ,mind it blends in well.

Anyone recognise this Foden tipper seen here at Canford Heath,Poole. Possibly Eaton’s ■■

No idea where the Inmalo Spares Volvo F6 is from ■■

Not sure who owned the F88 ■■ I dont think it was one of Phil Horridges (RIP) unless he had bought it
and not got around to spraying it his usual red like the trailer.

Channel Express Volvo F10 seen here leaving the Poole area and probably heading to Bournemouth airport where they
were based.

French Iveco of french haulier OTA Internacional and seen here heading to Truckline ferries Poole where they were a regular
sight.

Clements ERF B series from Boston,Lincolnshire. Looking at the pic that looks like Kings Park Bournemouth and i reckon hes just
pulled out the overnight lorry park.

Pandoro Seddon Atkinson 401 passing a french F10.

Charcon Leyland Roadtrain brick/block truck on the M6. Think it says Derby on the door ■■

Geo L Cooper Scania who i think were from South Wales somewhere ■■

Wincanton ERF recovery truck.

I would imagine that the Charcon artic would be based at their Hulland Ward plant. We had several trucks taking six or seven loads of dust in there daily, a couple of drivers did nothing else for over twenty years.
Pic of part of their yard, not my pic though.

Pete.

Hi Dean
Beacon Hill had 7 when I was there,2 mastiffs ,1 super mastiff , 1 bison ,1 Guy the F7 and a little terrier.
I was told John is in a care home now and June is living with her daughter, all rather sudden and a great shame.

If I’m not mistaken Pete that’s a very young looking David Booth behind the wheel.

I can’t remember what lump they had in the Transcons but I do remember that they lost two in Austria during the winter.
One with an electrical wiring fire and one allegedly, crashed after the accelerator froze.
