It’s possible that this was operated by a bloke called Todd. In the later '70s and early '80s he ran an unmarked blue drawbar outfit like this one in and out of East Kent Packers in Faversham with fruit bins for the surrounding farms but it was an Atkinson Defender.Great to see the Gee photos coming back onstream Dean!
Thanks for the above info.

Welcome back Dean!
You’ve got me there, I’ve no idea who’d Scania that is. Any idea when the picture was taken? It’s red, so could have been Portland Plant’s but I’ve never heard of them running a Scania. If it’s not them and I had to have a wild guess, it’d take a stab at Portland Stone, maybe pulled a low loader as the roof spoiler is missing? There were a few small operators on Portland, but I’ve never seen that one before. Any ideas Lee Roberts?
Classic ! I know what you mean i have been told of trucks that run around locally that i have never seen.
Heres one of Portland Plant motor’s.

Actually I’m wondering if it’s Dave Bevis’? Maybe ex Comptons, it’s a bit of a guess, and I’m searching for a picture that will back my theory up but I can’t find it! Failing that I’ll ring Dave up and ask him.
Comptons run some tidy tackle back in the day.

Hi Dean, Some great pictures from you as ever. The day cab Volvo was one of Connals of Glasgow.
During my time, early 1970s with Robert Baillie at their Wigan depot, Connals used our yard as a change
over point, The Scottish night trunk drivers went to local daytime bed & breakfast etc, and some
local lads did day work delivering " Corn Products " cooking oil from Paisley to Manchester, and then
loaded double deck pallets of glass bottles from Rockware Glass at St Helens or Doncaster for the
night trunk lads to take to Paisley. There are a couple of pictures of Connals Volvo units in Baillies
yard on pages 1 and 2 of the Robert Baillie thread on here. These pictures from Eddie Heaton.Cheers, Ray.
Thanks for the info Ray, i remember those Connals G88’s you posted and i think they were orange.

Hello Dean good set of pics, the Antars especially were a real workhorse for the military, by the way a bit of useless info, military Antars were never known as Mighty Antars that term was purely for the civilian versions, probably not a lot of people know that Franky.
I never knew that about the military just calling them Antars. Hell of a sight when you used to see a convoy of them heading up the road from
Bere Regis to Wimborne.
Here’s another one that was in that convoy and a brochure.(Click on pages twice to read)

If it’s the one I’m thinking of, it was a 4-wheeler ‘Knight’ on an H-plate (Defender is an 8-legger post 1970), running with a trailer. IT was bought for restoration a year or so ago, having been stored indoors for donkey’s years
Thanks for the info Chris. do you know the full reg ?

The T Cab Scania was operated by Richard Paisley if I remember correctly. He was based in the actual port at one point, I believe he also operated All Clear Skips running a handful of those Turkish BMC skip loaders. Downsized a lot now operating out of the former Plant & Commercial yard in Victoria Square still on the island.
Thanks for the info Lee,good stuff.

Dean B,
Good morning , Cadwalladers were based in Pontypridd. The Sed Ak 400 could possibly have been run by Colemans based in the Forest of Dean. That is based on the trl: number on the head board and the livery
Regards, Allan.
Thanks for the info Allan. Re the Seddon Atkinson,i think this Volvo is the same company D & F Coleman ?
Mrsteel:
Kenfig Bill,
Good morning,
Re: Greenings Killay, in the late sixties I drove an Albion Cheiftain on the steel out of the Abbey.
Greenings also ran one on the same work. Very smart livery. The one I drove had the Albion 4 pot engine which was a bit underpowered. Not sure if Greenings was the same spec: The guy that drove it was a ginger haired guy who wore glasses but for the life of me I can’t remember his name.
Regards, Allan.
One like this Allan as this had the 4 cylinder in it.

I remember the BMC’s, I photographed one where Holder Bros yard was.
Renault Premium you mentioned
Looks as though they now like their Renaults!!!
You have got that covered nicely Paul.
