Dean do you know ought about this motor, Buzzer
Civil engineering and road building.
Fleetbridge roundabout and the fly over that crosses it was built in the 1970’s and is the largest road junction in Poole.
Most of you that have ever been to Poole will have probably gone over the top,or round the roundabout at some time.
Heres some pics of the building work and roads around it including the new housing estate that was built on Canford Heath.
What the flyover and roundabout looks like today.
A couple of bull dozers in the background building the ground up for the flyover.
This is a shot of what the to previous pic’s above looks like today.
Raymond Brown’s Michigan loading shovel working on the other side of the flyover.Looks like a fair size machine for the 1970’s.
Loading possibly one of E.F.Phillips AEC’s from Parkstone.
The Foden is working on the roundabout. One for the Foden specialists, whats the model of the crane with the unusual cab ■■
An International and Caterpillar scraper levelling the ground off Seem to remember they let “coomsey” loose with one of these !
Which was the better machine “coomsey” the Caterpillar ■■
Morrisons ERF.
Wilkinson Scania.
Norbert Dentressangle Magnum. They were huge at one time and i am sure they had around 5,000 motors at there peak.
Distinctive colour scheme on the DAF tipper so someone may recognise the company ■■
D.M.Guppy DAF 1900 from just outside of Wimborne.Have not seen one of there trucks for along time so not sure if they
are still running. Use to do scrap, machinery removals.
Andrews Plant DAF from Wareham.
Brittania Leatherbarrows Removals DAF from Hurn airport.
Beer Seller Mercedes.
Francis Bugler DAF from Poole.
De Root DAF from Holland. Used to see these motors all the time on the Portsmouth/Caen ferry.
Keiller Mercedes from Dundee on the Wimborne bypass. Anyone recognise the car ■■
CPS Mercedes from ■■
G.J.Nibbs i think from ■■?
Anyone recognise the colour scheme of the ERF ■■? Seen here in Poole exiting Christopher Hills mill.
Dont recall having a PSA Transport motor on before, but it also says Harris Haulage (Grays) Ltd on the front ■■
logger:

Hi, I think it was new to Pickfords, I have seen pictures of Pickfords Scammells with
KD number plates which were from Liverpool. Sadly, this tractor is not a pretty site.
Cheers, Ray.
Still a cracking thread Dean thanks for your efforts. Used to do a lot of holiday relief for PSA Transport out of Teesport. Originally they had 2 F10,s based there. Polish Shipping Agency (PSA) the vessel used to do a weekly Gdansk/Teesport/Tilbury route. So Teesport traffic was mostly North and down to around Birmingham and Tilbury traffic covered the South, so the DAF will have run out of Tilbury not too sure how many vehicles were based there.
The vessel stopped sailing around the late 80,s and then PSA Teesport worked of North Sea Ferries for Ferrymasters and fleet did grow to around 7 to 8 vehicles, don’t really know what happened to Tilbury based vehicles.
PSA F10 parked up at Easingwold after tipping Hull fruit and veg market usual load from Poland 20 ton of onions all handball onto pallets !

Hi Dean
Dave Guppy passed away a couple of years ago but the boys still run 2 Scania 8 wheelers with cranes ones a roll on/off skip and the others a flat with beaver tail. Don’t think they do so much with the trucks as they used to,it was a bit easier in the days when you didn’t need to do a 2 day course to ■■■■! They still have the commer 2 stroke that Dave had new in 1970,he was a character and a nice bloke (if you didn’t upset him)
Dean, his yard was on the road near Masters Quarry, it may have been an old quarry itself, Wareham Ball Clay possibly? I’m sure someone else will be able to clarify. According to my old man he bought a few site tippers to stick on the Wareham or Bere Regis bypass job and it went from there, he tended to buy a lot of stuff from ARC for various jobs here and there, still runs half a dozen vehicles I think, an interesting man to speak to.
He still has quite a bit of land in Nottington Village, near Weymouth.

Wrote a longer reply, but unfortunately deleted it instead of sending, I gave up in 2006 and am now a CPC holder with the old established firm of W L Vallance down here in Devon.Cheers

Yes Nolan took it over when the firm went under. Not sure what TTX stood for but it was owned by the Taylor family and the x I think stood for express.
Probably got it totally wrong again
SimonMorning John / Simon, Heres one of Nolan’s when they must have just taken over TTX as pulling one of there trailers.

Casual Observer:
Looks like one of Whites gravel pits old F86 which has been sold on. Whites had a fair few different colour schemes over the years.Looks like another ex Sam Anderson F 86 .
XGB 530S, another F 86 with exact same style of body was posted earlier in thread, still bearing remnants of Anderson’s livery
Thanks for your comments chap.
They may have bought the odd second hand motor but i am pretty sure they normally bought new as they were a big old concern and have a fair few in that colour scheme, heres a few of them ?

“DEANB”No idea where the Hendy Hill ERF livestock truck is from ■■
Hi Dean. Hendy and Hill were a Bristol based abattoir that failed many years age, I can’t remember the year, probably early to mid 80’s. I was owed a what to me was a fair amount at the time, but as it was just under £1000, I did nor even get listed as a trade creditor, just included in sundries. That was the last meat company I ever worked for. From then on either the farmer or the buyer had to pay! Lesson learned.
Thanks for the info Pete.
Do you still run trucks ■■
kerbut:
I remember when Sam Polley had those.
Dorset:
Hi Dean
Thanks for those pictures, can’t remember Priors would of been after my time. We’re Broadbanks in Kennington Rd on the Nuffield where W&S are now? I might be just imagining that. The reiver looks a little similar to the ones EG Hoare would of run at Ferndown. They did all the excavations at Corbins for the base of the frag! A lot of steel and a lot of concreteYou could be right about Broadbanks i have no idea to be honest as never really went around the Industrial estates as a kid. I was
discussing Hoare with steam the other day as we were not sure where they were based and thought probably Ferndown Ind Estate ■■Trouble is with anything that says Wimborne is that the area the post code covers is very large for the size of the town and the actual companies can be 10 miles away on some farm in the middle of no where !
essexpete:
“DEANB” “essexpete” Some oldies at the steam fair. What is the 1920s looking tractor unit? I am guessing Leyland or Scammell?
Yes its a Scammell Pete, not sure what model.
Thanks Dean. I see it has Gillingham location. I recognise that village name from diving of the A303 to miss heavy traffic.
Yes Gillingham is just the other side of Shaftesbury off the crap A350.

Don’t know where this photo was taken Dean but used to see them regularly on the A14, probably servicing the American bases at lakenheath and mildenhall.

Dont associate Poland with growing onions for some reason.
You mentioned them working for Ferrymasters who used North Sea Ferries,Teesport. Before North Sea Ferries operated the route
Ferrymasters had there own roll on roll off ferry and heres a bit about them from 1977.

Yes i remember seeing a 8 wheeler Scania with there name on,it but i am sure it was not in there green colour and think it was red.
That Commer was a money making machine and they run that for years. Heres a couple of there motors.

The kind of stuff I love, once more! Were the two monsters fitted with proper pneumatic tyres at the end of their lives? It would certainly have eased the pressure on the tarmac. Thanks.
