Hi Dean
Thanks for having me on. I drove for Fred Eaton when I passed my test then after a couple of years went onto round timber for Mike Jones at Wimborne. Spent my school holidays from the age of 5 to 16 at work with my dad at Dave Corbin although he didn’t drive for him I was always out in the trucks good to see a few of his on here
We have had a fair few of Fred’s motors on here so i assume you know “steam” that also drove for them. Dont know how far you are
through the thread but there will be loads of motors/companies you will recognise.

“Mark R” Ronnie Wood from Sheerness Kent.
Remember seeing a Scania of his in the early 90s with ‘papa was a rollin stone’ across the back of the cab, think they did a lot for Milton pipes with flats at the time
Thanks for the info.

Hi Dean
Looking at Corbin marathon on 24 did this happen at wards in Ringwood?
I can remember going out with Dave Corbin in his Range Rover with the 6” high pile of ash from the king Edward cigar on the floor to a roll over at wards but can’t remember if it was the marathon or one of his 88s. Ronnie Nicklen from Furnells did the recovery
"King Edward cigars " Remember him puffing on them all the time, bloody great things.

I remember when he first went to buy the Range Rover when they first come out and went to the dealer down West Quay road in
Poole and wanted to buy 2. So he said “Discount for cash” and they said “NO” !! Can you believe it so he went upto the dealer in
Salisbury and bought one.Dont think he bought 2 but may have its along time ago.
I still cant remember how he ended up with the Marathon as he never liked them. i imagine it was a nearly new ■■■■■■ back as he
use to often buy the tracked machines that worked in the scrap yard like that and save a fortune. He had a few contacts that used
to give him the heads up.
I remember him telling me when the Leyland saleman popped in to see him when he was running F88’s on the artic work trying
to flog him one so he took a loaded F88 up the road with him in the passenger seat and he never called in again !

The Marathon turned over at Corbins yard and it went over 3 times in total so it was probably that motor that went over at Ward’s.
What about Dave’s 6 wheeler F88 that was a good motor.
We have had a fair few of Furnells wreckers on here.Remember Ronnie he was the dad and had a son who was also a fitter but
cant remember his name. Ronnie was a good bloke.trying to remember Furnell’s first name ? He died a few years ago in a flat fire
in Sandford. Here’s one of his wreckers.

I got a lift with two Burtons drivers one night mid 70s,Cardiff changed over with Leeds at Trowell Services.IIRC both drivers had worked their way up at Burtons from leaving school, finishing up with a well paid driving job there.Collar and tie etc…
Thanks for the comments Chris.
