So the story goes: One of Malc’s drivers said that he could not get his work done because he did not have a 141. So Malc sold the 141 and bought a 111. They were now all on a level playing field. He only ran the 141 for about 6 months. the truth is he said it was too heavy for tipper work. Malc liked his £’s per ton.
Well that’s the story he told me many years ago.

Any idea “steam”Hi Dean, Suttles are still trading they have their own quarry/s near the Swanworth one, they also have a yard at Tower park where you can buy various materials and also dispose of rubble , soil etc… for a price.
“steam” Sorry was on about Swanworth Quarries. Dont know what happened to them, remember going to there quarry at Worth Matravers as a kid
in my grandads trucks. Use to load you with stone and up the steep hill out of the quarry onto the weight bridge. If you were overweight they had
an area where you tipped the excess off. Seem to remember they were very hot on the gross weight being right.Hi Dean. Yes I used to load out of Swanworth when working for FW Eatons with their 8 wheel ERF and yes I remember going up the hill to the weighbridge and then having to reverse back onto the pile to tip off excess if you were overweight, if it was only about a ton then just oprning the tailgate would be enough to get you right, also I remember loading yourself out of the overhead bins on the left as you drove down the hill into the quarry, you had to reverse under them then jump out to pull the lever on the hopper then reverse back till you guessed you had the right weight then quickly jump out again and push the lever back to shut the hopper, Happy days !!

This info and pictures regarding Caudete S A reminded me of my first overland trip to Spain, early in 1992.
Within 40 miles of leaving Santander, I was in a blizzard driving through deep snow. From Burgos and beyond
the weather became a bit easier, and by the time I passed through Madrid, the temperature was in mid 70s
fahrenheit. South of Madrid near Ocana, I turned South East and crossed the La Mancha Plain and parked up
for the night near to Albacete where Caudete was based. My destination was Mojacar in Almeria Province,
a total of 595 miles from Santander. I sailed from Plymouth on " Duke De Normandie " because the the regular
ship, " Bretagne " was away on its annual refit at Brest in Brittany, but was back on its route when I got back
to Santander a few days later. Pictures 2 and 3 are heading South beyond Burgos, pictures 4 and 5 are on the
way back with about 120 miles still to go, and picture 6 is at Santander waiting to board " Bretagne ".
The date at the bottom of picture 6 is wrong, it should show 1992. Click on it for full image.Ray Smyth,
Great pics and post Ray.
I know what you mean Spain was like that snow one day up in the mountains then sunny and hot the further South you

Thanks for the pics Kev. Nice shot of your fleet ,those DAF’s were a nice truck.
I am surprised you see so many 8 wheelers with the large cab like the Renault and Volvo FH’s as you would think the
larger cabs would have been a fair bit heavier. I suppose the use of so much plastic these days makes them lighter than we think.
These newer 8 wheelers have a much larger gap between the 2 front steer axles and i wonder how the lock is comparable to the
older 8 wheelers where the 2 axles were closer. You would imagine turning left/right or going around a roundabout you would need
more room ? Or does the newer technology give you a better lock ? Anyone drive one as would be intrested in knowing.
