As far as i know Cutlers of Poole had nothing to do with the Wurzels. “I got a brand new combiner” actually went to number
1 in the charts. The other big hit “I am a cider drinker” went to number 3 in the charts. My uncle hired them to sing at his
wedding.

Hi Dean,

Just out of interest,The Wurzels long time drummer died last week.

David

Sorry to hear that David, mind they must be getting on a bit now.

Not sure why it says C.L.Transport on the trailer but C & G Janes on the unit that looks like its the same company
colours as the trailer ?

Wincanton ERF pulling an Esso Bitumen tanker. Dont ever remember seeing an Esso tanker with bitumen on the side.

Hi Dean,

Wincanton pulling Esso so must have been early on when the major oil companies started going to contractors. Tankfrieght started the Shell contract about the same time I believe. There were a few concerns that they would use unbranded trucks and tanks on different contracts. This as a way of them securing the knowledge that their product was still being advertised.

regards
Colin

The Merc was taken between Bournemouth and Poole and looks like it was heading back to its base which was on Poole docks.
I dont know when the Poole depot closed. When i was a kid they run Marathon’s then Roadtrains so the Mercs must have came
after the Roadtrains.

Heres the sister of that Merc posted yesterday taken on the same road.

Back on page 199 i posted some stuff about the Texaco Roadtrains. Heres a bit about there Marathons from 1978.
