PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION (Part 1)

Frankydobo:
Hi dean tipped Gateshead Thursday so decided to take some pics by the angel of the north
The biggest waste of taxpayers money ever spent in the Northeast but that’s a Labour Council for you! Franky.

Stirring a few emotions there Franky !! I had the same thoughts when it was being built but like a lot of things kind of got used to it over the years.
The annoying bit for me was Gormleys arrangement with the council, they paid him thousands but let him retain all the rights to it.

Little story - between 1992 & 2000 I worked in a large office on the TVTE. About three weeks after the Angel was erected some visitors were expected from the Knutsford office and I was the contact point for them. Morning of the visit got a phone call, “we are at Birtley services can you give us directions to the office” (three of them in the same car) duly told them using the Angel as a reference point. They arrived at reception 15 minutes later, I went down to meet them “Got here ok then” I said, reply was "Yeah, no problem thanks, but where was this angel you were going on about!!!

Tyneside

Thanks to everyone for the pics and comments they have popped on over the last few weeks.

Corralls of Poole Leyland Constructor seen here in Branksome heading in the direction of Bournemouth.

Bit of useless info Ray Smyth but that retail park in the background was where Redland Pipes used to be who we have spoken about in the past.

C.C.Pritchard Scania from Wales hauling a Tele-Trading trailer from Highcliffe & Eastleigh, seen here on the Wimborne bypass.
I have never heard of Tele-Trading but maybe someone knows about them ?

J.Pike Leyland Constructor tipper on the Wimborne bypass.

Selby DAF low loader from Lychett Matravers, seen here in Poole.

G.Maggs & Son Leyland Constructor from Temple Cloud with a load of roadbuilding stone or tarmac onboard.

Another Constructor of Hughes Transport seen on the M54.

Looks like the Eaton ERF is on a go slow, driver must be after some overtime looking at the que of trucks waiting to overtake.

G.F.Potter Roadtrain bulker. Says self drive on the front but i think they did haulage as well as i am sure we have had some on before.

ERF 8 wheeler of Tarmac seen here after coming through Ferndown and heading towards Poole/Bournemouth.

Hi Dean, The 8 wheeler Leyland picture at Branksome brings back many memories.
From 1995, my main source of work for my lorries was delivering specialist fabrics and
Anti-Gas garments for the Police and Military from Remploy Textiles factories as far North
as Aberdeen & Dundee, and as far South as Poole, Redruth, & Penzance. About once every
two weeks, I would deliver to and collect from 4 or 5 Remploy factories and arrive at the
Alder Hills, Poole, Remploy site. The next stop would be my parking place for the night, at
the rear of what now looks like a John Lewis store. A 2 minute walk would get me to the
Branksome Railway Hotel Pub, where I would have my evening meal, and perhaps a pint or two.

Cheers, Ray Smyth.

Newpark were from which is now Royal Wooton Bassett and did mainly Euro temp control work. Also the FL10 pulling the bulk tipper , looks like it could be one of Berrys from Ashton Keynes.

This was the other photo I got sent, think that might be a Durhams in the background.
[/quote]
Yes that would be Durhams yard at West Bromwich, where Alan was based.

Mystery solved. Alan used to own my Imp van as well. Thanks for all the info. Found his name on an old log book.

Heres a bit about the IMP Pete.

Click on pages twice to read.

1965 advert.

Interesting! I had forgotted the Imp’s engine was at the back. Strange to see that some figure are given also in litres and kilometres. Was the Imp supposed to be sold on the Continent? Never seen a French-registered one.

I don’t recall many Hillmans of any model in France actually.

were they not owned by Simca which was French or were they bought by Simca ?

Carried a fair few Imps from Linwood in the '60s can’t remember ever seeing a van type which may have been made at Dunstable. Rootes became part of Chrysler mid '60s as did Simca in the '70s and both later to become PSA Peugeot Citroen.

Anyone recognise the Scania 111 car transporter ■■

Looks like Sheertrucks from Sheerness, Kent Dean. Lots of European car imports through the port in the 70’s / 80’s if I recall. Bit of a peach job, decent money etc. I believe. Not sure what became of them, the transporter lads would know more. Paul.

I think you are wrong. I think it is an XJ Jag. Came out in the (mid?) 70’s eventually sold as Jags and Daimlers in both straight 6 and V12 (the Daimler) versions. Arthur Daley of the TV show Minders quite liked them… Nice cars though.

You might be right about a very early XJ6, though they were first introduced in 1968. God I’m getting old…

Hi Dean, interesting to see the Goulding trailer has landing legs so will be on a dolly so that a tractor unit could be used on it.We used them intensively at MFS.
