This was the other photo I got sent, think that might be a Durhams in the background.

Yes that would be Durhams yard at West Bromwich, where Alan was based.

Thanks for the useful information, very much appreciated.
Ray Smyth:
I always thought that the Hillman Imp van was a very attractive vehicle. What they were like to drive and if they were reliable, I do not know.
There was a rumour locally that a local small Undertaker firm was going to have a Hillman Imp van converted into a small hearse, perhaps for
small coffins and childrens funerals, whether that ever happened, I do not know. Cheers, Ray Smyth.
The Imp van is like a large go-kart. I’ve got 1" lower front springs and it handles like on rails. Very fun to drive.
Funnily enough, an Imp Club member used the Imp Husky (Imp van with windows) to take the coffin of her partner to the crematorium. It ‘just’ fitted.

Pjf220:
Sorry to drag up an old post, but wondering if anyone, especially jshepguis, has any more info on A Sanderson? I own a Hillman Imp Van which I have a photo of it in A Sanderson Service Van livery and I’m trying to learn more about its history. Was it an official A Sanderson service van? Any more photo or info?

Hi Allan.
OK thanks,I stand corrected.I believe they eventually became part of the CLS Scunthorpe group?
Chris Webb,
Hi again, that is correct they did become part of CLS. They formed a shunting service in The Abbey works
called Port Talbot Shunting Services often referred to by the shunters as A pot of tea and a sausage sandwich PTSS. There were some real characters among them. Iirc the shunting service was not a great success.

Hi dean tipped Gateshead Thursday so decided to take some pics by the angel of the north
The biggest waste of taxpayers money ever spent in the Northeast but that’s a Labour Council for you! Franky.
Interesting! I had forgotted the Imp’s engine was at the back. Strange to see that some figure are given also in litres and kilometres. Was the Imp supposed to be sold on the Continent? Never seen a French-registered one.

I don’t recall many Hillmans of any model in France actually.
