PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION (Part 1)

Hi Dean,
Hope you are keeping well.

Hyva are a Dutch company who’s headquarters are about 30kms outside of Rotterdam, they have a few sub subsidiary companies based around the world, The company of Hyva UK is based at Trafford Park, a lot of their equipment is fitted by agents throughout the UK as the Manchester workshop is always overflowing with new assemblies being prepared for the end user.

Cheers Dave.

DEANB:
I am sure someone mentioned this company recently on here. Roberts / Ross Roadways Volvo F88.

Bearing in mind how many thousands of photos we have had on here we have not had many DAF 2600’s on here ? I wonder why ?

Western BRS DAF. Those 1100/1300’s must have been one of the most sold cars back in the 1970’s they were everywhere when i was
growing up a bit like Bedford Tk’s.

Morning Dean,
Sadly no relation to me!
H L Smith are still trading and based in Albrighton 6 miles from Wolverhampton, I have always used them for the supply of gearbox and power steering boxes.

My last firm had a Fuller 'box from them, it must have been a ‘friday night’ job as it kept jumping in and out of low range on hills both loaded or empty from day one. I complained to one of my ‘gaffers’ about it but nothing was done until I had a day off and a relief driver had it, he also complained about it and the boss then decided that maybe something was wrong! :unamused: I took it back to Smith’s, first thing they said was “are you changing gear correctly?” and I said that after 15+ years of driving Fuller gearboxes I had a pretty good idea! We went for a test drive and with it being level country around there it wouldn’t perform. I told them it only does it on hills, loaded or empty, they still reckoned there was nothing wrong though! Anyway I had to leave it, they loaned me the rail fare from Wolverhampton to Birmingham, changed trains to Derby and then another train to Matlock. My gaffer had to send them a cheque in return. They gave me a lift in a small van to Wolverhampton station, there was a large dumper transmission in the back and it wasn’t strapped! The driver braked sharply for some lights and the gearbox slid forward and hit the seats, I heard it slide and braced myself but the driver didn’t and he connected with the steering wheel! :open_mouth:

Anyway we got the truck back eventually and they had fitted a different back end to the box, they still didn’t admit to there actually being a fault though but it was fine from then on.

Pete.

Lovely ! That must be the oldest working truck still tramping all over the UK.
There may be some older but i bet they are working alot more local.

Last time i saw that F88 he had just gone over the top of Poulner Hill at Ringwood loaded with logs and was in the outside lane
blowing the doors of a new Volvo FH and Scania. As you would say Buzzer he was “gelling on” and it was pretty to watch !

Anyone recognise the Atkinson ■■ Cant make the name out on the headboard, looks like initials M.O. ?

Dont remember seeing a Volvo in Greenwoods colours before. They have always been Foden and DAF. Seen here leaving Poole docks
with a load of Zanussi washing machines/tumble dryers that used to ship in from Cherbourg on unaccompanied trailers.

Two of Greenwoods DAF’s bringing said unaccompanied trailer’s to send out to France.

Pete Smith, one of your mates, Leonard Crane’s F88.

Daz, any idea who owns this one ? Probably an owner driver and looks like hes smoking either a pipe or a huge cigar ■■

Dont remember ever seeing an Atkins subby so not sure if this is in a customers name or it is infact a subby, anyone know ■■

The Atki in the last batch has market in the headboard writing,
Could it be mainland market deliveries, M M D?

Great photos as ever.
