ECC Volvo F7 seen here in Poole and from there Worth Matravers quarry.

Strongfine Steel stockholders Iveco.

Think it says W & S Transport from West Lulworth which is in the Purbecks and no doubt worked out of the
Worth Matravers quarries as there were a fair few back in the 1970’s.

D.Mortimer Scania. Anyone know where they are from ■■

Hi Dean

would rather drive the Drinkwater Foden any day before the earlier Mercedes. Please keep finding them! Thanks

Heavy fuel consumption in the transcon at 70mph + doesn’t seem particularly relevant. Im sure any truck doing that would be slurping some diesel.

What an adventure it must have been in those days.

Great photos as ever.

Steve

Hi Dean, This Ribble Leyland bus is the same one that you posted on here earlier today.
I have had this book by Eric Ogden since it was published in 1983.

Cheers, Ray Smyth.

I remember the Simonds David Brown tugs pottering around town, they survived into the Courage brewery days but were repainted in Courage’s maroon livery.

Pete.

I always find those small tugs intresting Pete. There were loads of manufacturers building them back in the 1950’s.

David Brown tug.

D.Mortimer Scania. Anyone know where they are from ■■

If its the same D Mortimer that has eat more chips on the side of they’re fridges, there from Melksham, but looking at that little scanny its probably not ?

How old do you think I am Dean?! I only remember Zurel having Scania’s, but I think I’ve seen a pic of a D-Series somewhere… I’ll do some digging mate

I’m pretty sure these were from Milton Keynes, and were involved in magazine distribution - but I could be wrong.

Cheers, Keith

Landais Transport DAF who are from near Nantes. These motors have been coming through Poole since the late 1970’s
and are still going today. Deliver alot of Manitou forklifts to Ferndown. They use to and probably still do load alot of
paper from a paper mill in the Lake District, think it was Workington.

Smith Brothers of Whitehaven?

I don’t know them from MK but agree with you on the magazine stuff, I’m 99% sure they were from Hemel Hempstead, probably did a lot of work for the Daily Mirror out of Watford.

They were from Hemel Hempstead IIRC, Buzzer.

I have to say i always found those Mercedes comfortable to drive “finbarot” but imagine the Foden was the better motor
for off road work.

I agree Steve, thats why i kept that clipping as i thought it was bloody obvious that any motor would be using alot
of diesel doing 70mph !   Mind you that was fairly normal back in the 70’s ! :unamused:

Thanks for the comments “Kempston”, “Kmills” and “Buzzer” about the Mortimer Scania. That makes perfect sense as
the local paper, The Echo was printed only a mile or so away from where the pic was taken.

I dont know but imagine he had delivered there. When papers dont sell at newsagents etc they are returned.
I wonder if he has a load of old papers that he is taking back to possibly be recycled ■■

Probably Chris ,never knew the name chap just knew they loaded regularly from there. I would think they have a
contract with either them or the buyer in France as have had lorries loading out of there every week for years.
