Scammel Routeman tanker looks like Websters of Wirksworth , it says Webster on the front .
Thanks Rigsby, I knew we had one of these on before but could not remember the name.
Here it is.

Aye that’s one of Charlie’s alright. He liked his Scammell’s. We had one of his old drivers at Ballidon and he was a very steady chap who we rarely saw in the workshop. They ran tippers as well at one time, I remember some BMC Mastiffs. He later sold out to W Wood’s from Kniveton (later Ashbourne) but they kept the same green and cream livery and the tippers were painted the same, previously Wood’s had been grey. I think Wood later sold his company to AK Transport, he was running Volvo’s by then, but I could be wrong there, all are long gone now though. One of Websters former drivers, Ron, is (or was) on Trucknet.
Nice to see one of Cantrell’s Fodens as well, they are still trading.
Pete.
Thanks for the comments Pete !

The end of an era article makes interesting reading, asking if uk manufacturers can raise their game to the level of the Europeans. Always thought they were taken somewhat by surprise after we joined the common market and imports flooded in, but here it suggests otherwise.
Steve
Thanks for your comments Steve.
That was written in 1962 and i dont know which foreign manufacturers were actually
importing to the UK then. Throughout the 1970’s i always remember the top three sellers of 8 wheelers being Leyland,Foden and
ERF.
Volvo imported the first Volvo F86 unit in April 1967.
With regard to the Europeans in the 1970’s the F86 would have been the top seller in the 6 and 8 wheeler section and i imagine the
Maguirus Deutz would have probably been second in the 8 wheeler market. Cant think of another European manfacturer that would
have challenged those two. Probably Mercedes,DAF next ■■ Scania were not huge in the 8 wheeler market in the 1970’s.
