Where ever it was, he had an easy time of it with a single-axle trailer, BD!

Haha well spotted ROF! What would’ve been the gross net? 18 tons?

From memory- which ain’t very good, these days- I seem to recall that three axles got you 20 tons gross, but I’m willing to be corrected. Our North-Eastern pal, Larry will probably know.

3 axles got you 26 ton gross. Dieseldog66.

Hi all ,re axle weights when I was shunting we would weigh out tandem trailers with two axle unit gross weight 32 tonnes which meant trailers could carry up to 20 tonnes ,when tri axles came in it went up to 38 ,meaning we would put on 23 tonnes, then a six wheeler with tri axle went to 42 tonne now it is 44 tonne hope this makes sense cheers John

Hi I put this on a few pages back regarding axle weights cheers John. Hope this helps diesel dog

Thanks “Dieseldog66” for your input.

Dukes Transport bought over by Montgomery about 2001/2002 but to my knowledge the Dukes name no longer used.

I believe the (Ronnie) Dukes name is now associated with horse stables & courses.

Cheers Dave !

I think the Bedford TM on the last page would have been Cadbury Bourneville .
Also, re the discussion of when Volvo moved the F88 wipers from the top to the bottom of the screen - my Dad bought a new 88 in October 1972 that had the wipers on the bottom. That was the first lorry I ever slept in- and I can still remember it. I can’t remember anything useful though.

Cheers “Kmills” Think you are right as Steve Jones said the same !

It seemed to me that architects in red brick areas wanted gold coloured houses n gold brick, red .Backload ,if it weren’t Butterley yard , used an old bag to cover headboard although the blue n black motor was a bit of a giveaway .Cheers Dean

I’d agree Bassets. That for me is one of the best pics I’ve seen on here. Brings back memories of my year on Mickey mouse, I knew the back end of just about every firm that used the M 1 49mph. Went onto ERF 59mph frightened me until I got the hang of overtaking, warp speed

It’s a great topic and seems to often be confirming some of my views of the day. That the pace of change in operators moving away from the old obsolete Brit guvnors wagons is often under estimated and what I remember of the motor trade many people rightly doing whatever it took to stay with whatever affordable rwd options they could get.Rather than go for the cheap and nasty fwd BMC’s.On that note I can certainly remember the trade putting and customers offering a premium for those types and other options like the A 40/50/55/60,Cortinas,and the Vauxhall options, many being well over 10 years old, throughout the 1970’s.With the survivors also being respected classics now.
