PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION (Part 1)

MANTRONIC:
Hey Dean ,looking forward to Pauls next set of Welsh motors ,thanx MT

Ray Smyth:
Tait Vehicle Hire Volvo F7.

Hi Dean, Regarding the Tait Vehicle Hire Volvo with the “Cavray” fridge trailer, Cavray is a
large chilled/frozen food company from Carlisle called Cavaghan & Gray. I don’t know whether
they had their own artic lorries, and this hired Volvo was to cover for one of theirs off the road.
Gerald Leyland 600 will probably know more detail of the company. Regards, Ray

Thanks for the info Ray.

marky:
The burgundy & white DAF 2800 pulling the 20’ box is one of Blundell & Rimmer’s from Burscough. I suspect the F10 in front of it is one of their subcontractors.

Thanks for the name “marky”

tyneside:
IIRC Cavanagh & Gray had their own slaughtering facility in Carlisle. We used to deliver the odd load of pigs up there for a local fattener.

At one time I think they were the major ready made sandwich supplier to Marks & Spencer.
Tyneside

Thanks for the info “tyneside”

S.M.Davies MAN.

Hello DEAN and MT ,thank you Dean for the S M Davies shots ,but quite a few are either green or blue ,their main contract is with a timber merchant and garden center company both based in Welshpool ,they first started up in Guilsfield a village 4 miles away just of the A483
Some very smart and well turned out fleets up this way ,Dean you also put up G Owen from Newtown ,and MT you mention T Alun Jones a very big fleet now ,and you have seen them down your way ,they do a lot of timber in and out of Chirk ,a couple of years ago they were hauling timber from Rhigos mountain near Hirwaen up to Chirk thank you Trevor

Thanks for the comments Trevor, i agree with you about there being some smart company colours on some of those Welsh motors. Its nice to
see companies that still have their own colours rather than the dreaded white !

kenfig bill:
D.Jenkins & Son smart Volvo.

Hello DEAN …great set of Welsh motors their …favourite had to be Don Jenkins from Felinfach near Lampeter …very smart fleet to rival Mansel Davies …we look forward to Pauls next batch …lol …Geraint

smallcoal:

Whats going on here then chaps ■■? :unamused: If i am not mistaken that says F89 on the door,on a right hand drive ? Maybe its the driver having a laugh
and popping that badge on. The air stack was used on the early F88’s and F89’s. The 290’s had the one with the rounded top. The grill is either a 290
or 89 looks quite deep and the 89 one was deeper than the F88. Could be thats its just had a new grill fitted at sometime and the air stack was fitted
from new. I am sure they popped on whatever air stack they had when building back then,so if they had run out of the correct one they would just fit
one of the others ! The air stack is on the drivers side which would be where an F89 should be and a F88 one would be on the passenger side, unless it
was a left hand drive F88. It does not look like the engine is tilting to the left so you would assume it is an F88. :unamused: I am confused !!

I reckon the driver was having a laugh and popped a F89 badge on it,when its actually a F88.

Anyone recognise it or know about it ■■? The photo was taken in Poole and looking at the pics it was used abroad. :unamused:

Well Dean, for starters the MAN Milk tanker has MILK written on the side! Presumably Milk Marketing Board? Regarding the Guy Big J, that isn’t ‘somebodys leg’ but a lane marker post, you can see some in the other pics.

Is that not a lane marker post that they used to " stick into the cats eyes " ?
Regards John.

Hi Dean, The blue MAN is Milk Marketing Board, signed in full on the tank, and MMB on the cab door, Regards, Ray.

I had one of those Tait’s F7s for about 6 months when I worked for National Carriers in 1980, it had TVH Darlington accross the front, I loved that little motor.
I came off a day cab 400 Sed Atk, it was like coming off a farm tractor on to a little sports car, and …it had a sleeper cab. :sunglasses:
Excellent little truck for it’s day.
