M.I.R.A, we did a lot of resurfacing there. Following a road roller doing about ten mph around the banking in a Foden six wheeler loaded with tarmac was a real ‘arse clenching’ time! It felt like you were falling out of the door and everything on the engine cover landed up on the cab floor! :unamused: We did have a couple roll over there, no real damage done though.

Pete.

That’s a good article about Carless,Capel and Leonard,thanks Dean.

I dont know why this S.M.Davies DAF is a different colour to the MAN ? Maybe one of them is under contract to a company ? Personally i prefer
the green one. It reminds me of trucks from the 1970s with the great colour schemes and sign writing !

Hi Dean, Regarding the Tait Vehicle Hire Volvo with the “Cavray” fridge trailer, Cavray is a
large chilled/frozen food company from Carlisle called Cavaghan & Gray. I don’t know whether
they had their own artic lorries, and this hired Volvo was to cover for one of theirs off the road.
Gerald Leyland 600 will probably know more detail of the company. Regards, Ray

The burgundy & white DAF 2800 pulling the 20’ box is one of Blundell & Rimmer’s from Burscough. I suspect the F10 in front of it is one of their subcontractors.

IIRC Cavanagh & Gray had their own slaughtering facility in Carlisle. We used to deliver the odd load of pigs up there for a local fattener.

At one time I think they were the major ready made sandwich supplier to Marks & Spencer.
