The blue F88 which I think was a 230 engine belonged to Ian Lawson, not sure if he bought that new but he replaced it with an F12 1980 vintage which Ian is still driving today and I saw him this week on the M27 with a 20ft container. Last time I spoke to him about two years ago he was tipping in a cold store next door to our yard and I asked how much he would sell it for and he said he had offers exceeding £25.000 any time he wanted to part with it, not completely original as it has an updated cab but never the less still working and looking the part even today. Think Ian is well into his 70’s now so must be one off the oldest OD’s still working and I think the finance is paid of on the truck, cheers Buzzer.
Hi Buzzer,
Remember me to Ian when you speek to him next, tell him I have spent the commission.
There is an interesting story about his colour scheme.
Cheers, Harvey
Go on then Harvey whats the story ■■?

Been away for a long weekend in The Dales ! Klemp Klamps from memory were an attachment for using on trailers without twist locks to secure containers during the early 70’s IIRC when the days of roping them on became a No! No! but I don’t recall them "catching on " Cheers Dennis.
Well done Dennis, gold star for you mate ! Wondered what they were.

T s Rees is about a mile away from me they are a quarry in Cornelly ,sammy Rees is the owner he runs a scania now
Yes, T.S. Rees an old company. John, when they sold up was it Davies Brothers that bought their Scammels. The N.C.B. Dodge OBO304M was probably based at Britannia transport yard. I drove OBO296M a 6 wheel tipper.
Great photos, thanks again guys.
hi paul,
T.S.Rees are still trading and as john says they still run some lorries. They are very big land owners in my area.T.S.Rees have to my 52 year knowledge, never ever sold a complete lorry to anyone.when their vehicles became to old to operate commercially, they were parked up and often stayed in that spot for 30 plus years.A family friend,Peter Richards is driving the scammell 8 wheeler in the photo, peter drove for rees’ for well over 30 years…
regards andrew.
HI Andrew, did they cut back on the quarry operations late 80s? It was probably early 80s when Davies Brothers put the Scammels on the coal. They also had Deutz’s and Man’s.
Am I right in thinking T.S.Rees on the right coming down the hill, Davies Brothers on the left and also a commercial vehicle dealer with Ex Military stuff in a disused quarry as well, or am I mixing up Ewenny and South Connelly!
Regards Paul
Thanks for your comments Paul.

Hi all,
Sammy Rees had a large lime plant in South cornelly, this I guess closed during the late 80’s? To early 90’s? Davies bros were opposite sammy’s in lime kiln yard South cornelly. They were never based on stormy down aerodrome as Smallcoal said. The commercial dealer in a quarry is probably Bruce Jenkins’ yard at Ewenny.
Regards andrew.

That’s how they came out of the factory, cream cab, and a dark brown chassis, I guess like a demo livery…not that there was much of that in the 70s!
We had one, N reg, could not keep it in rear hub seals, even had the regional engineer come out to the workshop to fit a set of seals…they leaked as well…
“steelboyf10” cheers for your comments chap.

Cheers Harry ,good looking motor !
Buzzer:
harryvr6 this Ian Lawson’s present motor owning it from new WHO 901V actually we had WHO 498V an F12. He had that for 8 years I believe before the rear brake linings were replaced for MOT and that was only because they had gone hard and they were not worn out, Ian does his own maintenance or used too so well looked after, don’t know who took the picture, cheers Buzzer.
Thanks Buzzer, certainly looks after his motors !
