Dean don’t think RCS are still going but when they were they did more or less exclusive work for Montague. L. Meyer timber products out of the docks, timber trusses and the like and I think they brought in timber as well, Buzzer

Hi Dean.
FVS stands for Freeman,Volkers and Stuart which is or was part of Prestons of Potto,Nth Yorks.
And Wilsons from Sheffield did a lot of work out of Tinsley Wire Industries Sheffield, poor sods.I hated the place int late 60s.
Sean Wilson,a son, was a TSM at Wincanton Maltby, great bloke and I’m still in touch with him.
FVS stands for Freeman, Volker and Stewart, owned by Prestons of Potto since the 70’s

Hi mark,no they finished years ago my old school mate I grew up with married hunkins daughter and drove for them how you keeping how’s your mam doing
MONSOON ?
Dean, the new one will have the Paccar (Daf) MX lump at 510hp 1850lbs/ft torque. That’s the biggest I can get without going for a ■■■■■■■ and it’s a brave man that buys one of those with their reputation for unreliability.
I know a few blokes with the 510 MX and I like what I hear about them, they say they pull like a CAT, but I just think they’re trying to make themselves feel better. I’m not bothered tbh, as long as it’s good on juice and reliable, I’ll only drive it once on the day I pick it up and maybe again when I sell it.

Hi Mark,
Be interesting to see how the MX performs over there. They have a good reputation over here.Though selfishly,I really miss your photos and words of driving 361.I love CAT.
Regards Andrew.
Hi Andrew, I haven’t got much to write about these days, nothing exciting about the work I do now, it’s hard to excite an audience about a field in Saskatchewan both in words and pictures. It doesn’t have quite the same appeal as trips to California, Florida, New York and over the Rockies etc. I do miss those trips and would love to go back to that work, but money talks and I have a lot more time at home doing what I do now, so I have to be a grown up about it, much to my dismay.

One for you “ROF” with rot in the door !!!Marshall Wilson F88.

There weren’t many things wrong with a 290 F88 from a driver’s perspective, Dean, but tin worm was certainly one of them!
I took over mine when it was just over two years old and within six months I had filled rust holes in the nearside door, around both front indicators and rebuilt the lower portion of the air intake stack. Still a superb vehicle to drive, though. ROF

The main problem with the 290’s was driver misuse over running them down hill and in the end they just blew up but they did go at a speed, remember Kammac going from Skemersdale to Dorchester in just four hours 75 to 80 on the motorway, Buzzer
Morning all,
F88/89 Rust.
Cant remember the year but due to the rust problems ( cabs were left out in all weathers in waxed primer) in the south, they decieded to move the cab plant to the far north on Sweden and upgrade the metal.
Results were amazing overnight.
The air being thinner made the big differance, less carbon in the steel and primed with undercoat and “just in time” sorted the storage out.
Down side, Mosquito’s like Crane flies that zap you through your shirt and jumper love the thin air, Not for me !!! Harvey
Morning Dean,
As I only do a Sunday shift I drive what I am given but they all know how fussey I am about clean cabs and not smoking so its one of 3 that are available at the time.
The MAN IRZ 3194 is a nice clean unit, Evan Tiger sat on passenger seat is kept clean, and the gearbox is a round dial with a switch, no double-de-clutch or anything.
Yes, like most you can find yourself in Mexican overdrive at round-a-bouts but that sets a little challenge for the driver, keeps us from going to sleep.
Volvo has the edge on the box but the engine break on the MAN wins on that front.
They are all good these days, its all down to who can give the back up in my opinion, cheers, Harvey
Morning Buzzer,
Going for it this morning.
Well done you, I could not remember the timber company in the docks that RCS used.
Richard Smith operated out of his farm in Stoneham lane just at the back of St Nicholas church and was in to a lot of things beside haulage, having livery for many horses and small business units. Harvey

If they are the same spec as here the 510s can be problematic apparently , i know 1 local operator who has had problems with 510s whereas the 460s he runs have been very good. One comment from the drivers were the 510s don`t go as well as the 460s but this could just be talk
I call that the ERF syndrome Ramone, on account of the tales of ERFs with a 320 ■■■■■■■ and twin splitters that would go better the more weight they carried and leave 450 Scanias for dead on hills.

Ha ha i know what you mean , but i think the latest euro rating (6 I think ?) are hampered even more. I had a 2017 Stralis 450 last week and i couldnt believe how numb it was . It
s like they`ve taken all the guts out of the engine . I could not make it pull away from a stand still empty faster than snail pace. The 510 Daf i mentioned could well have been a 1 off bad one but he is getting shut and replacing it with … another 510 Daf so he must rate them. What engine is in your Volvo and do they sell the 750s over there and more importantly do they have to conform with the same restrictions as the euro 6s■■?
