Thanks for the comment Geraint.

Chris Webb:
I remember seeing that Ford Transcontinental, there was a company from Norfolk that ran similar liveried Fords but that’s all I can say about it.
Is that a W H Malcolm Scania on the trailer?

Thanks for the comment Chris, not sure who the Scania belonged to.

Chris Webb:

Chris,
It could be a T Brady unit on the trailer?

Did Brady run Scanias Pete,I can’t remember.I remember seeing them a lot on the A590 when I was running to British Cellophane Barrow and Glaxo Ulverston. It certainly looks like their livery.

Brady’s did run Scania’s Chris.

5thwheel:
If was thinking it looked more like a Brady’s unit Chris? David

Hello kenfig bill ,sorry i did not see your comment earlier ,yes your father is right Forresters had a few twin steer Fodens with the S39 cabs
They would have hauled acids into the Abbey ,and would backload from Texaco Bynea ,they did the same at Llanwern ,backloading from Monsanto Newport to Monsanto Ruabon ,thank you Trevor

Cockerdog:
John Boyle Transport were from Ramsdell, Hampshire (between Basingstoke and Reading). They were certainly in business back in the 1960’s but under the name ‘Boyle and Ellis’. I’m not sure what happened to Ellis but John Boyle was a farmer and the lorries were used for hauling supplies and produce, for, and from the farm - seed potatoes from Pembrokeshire for growing, potatoes delivered all across England, grain, sugar beet, fertiliser, animal feed and the like. They would also take on transport for other companies, mainly agricultural based but did branch out into general ‘tipper’ work and eventually got bought out by Snooks Transport of Reading. Not sure what happened to Snooks but you certainly don’t see them around anymore.

Thanks for the information “Cockerdog” always nice when someone recognises one we dont know about !

FLOURPOWER:

Trevor , PLEASE edit your posts chap and delete the stuff that is not relevant as this reply went on for ever. :open_mouth:

Forresters may have been loading or delivery to a company on Poole docks that they used to go to according
to my uncle. They were called ISR. Not sure what the i stands for possibly industrial ?
The other two words were Synthetic Rubber. The company is no longer there but it was situated just
over the railway lines and you can see the storage tanks behind the Dawson Volvo.

when loaded as it looks like the hill by the railway station in Southampton.

Posted a pic of a Volvo F88 in these colours the other day,and Buzzer informed us it was a owner driver.
Looks like he has part exchanged the F88 for a F10.

Pattens Transport Dodge.

Holmere Volvo F88. Harvey you may have dealt with this company as they were from Whiteparish.

H Dean.

ISR was International Synthetic Rubber and their site was at Hythe not far from Fawley.I believe it was American owned,I used to take Toluene and Benzene in there and reload Toluene/Benzene mixture back to Staveley Chemicals. Apart from the weighbridge staff I never saw any body else, you went to the offloading point, picked up a phone and control room told you which pump to use - being watched on a camera of course.Same with reloading as well.I don’t think there was a canteen there either, just vending machines. You could tip and reload in there in an hour and a half.Henry Smithers were big players in ISR shifting the rubber to a place in Wiltshire somewhere,I think it was Membury.ISR also had a place at Grangemouth.
There was a big tank farm at Poole,I used to take Styrene and Vinyl Acetate into there from BP Baglan Bay and ISR also used that facility. From memory it was run by PD Storage - Powell Duffryn, who also had a tank farm at Barry.

I’m going to hazard a guess at Joseph Foulkes from Wednesfield……………………Pete Smith will know.

And UKAEA on the Foden - UK Atomic Energy Authority.

Hi Dean.
Thanks for sharing that J&M photo.Tbh I’ve been a bit busy and missed that whole page of this brilliant archive, until now!Difficult for me to make out who’s driving? They Bought FJU Secondhand, was a 320 ■■■■■■■ and 13 speed Fuller,a real flying machine. Also of interest to me,is this F88 shot, years later I bought the overdrive gearbox from this truck, for my own F88 restoration.

Morning Dean,
Yes indeed, evan remember the driver shown in this F88 but not his name.
Brian Snellgar is the company owner and a big name in the steam clubs with his own Burrel roller.
I remember following him down the road one day, he was in his cortina estate and it was chucking it down and all I could see was jets of water either side of the windscreen shooting up into the air.
I pulled into our yard behind him ( he was in for parts) only to see that rust had eaten away huge slots above each wing and thats where the rain was shooting up from.
I know he looked after the trucks better than that. Harvey

Hi Dean, I am particularly interested in the Leyland Comet with the “Checkers” headboard
in your “Odds And Sods” posting yesterday. The “Checkers” name was a trademark logo for
Louis Reece of Horsmonden in Kent, and for possibly many other apple growers in the County.
The Leyland Comet would have been new to Louis Reece sometime in the early to mid 1950s.
I am grateful to you for your immense contribution to this thread and many others on Trucknet.

Kind Regards, Ray.

Louis Reece Leyland Comet.jpg

Dean that Berliet of NR transport operated out of what was a Shell garage on the A303 just west of Bullington roundabout as it was then, think the name was Riley but not sure they went abroad as well and one night we were in Prato and the driver think his name was George Broomefield had an old ■■■■■ in the cab and it certainly got up a sway towards the end of the show, there were about 20 drivers cheering him on in the end in the ring carpark at the railway station at Prato, funny how you remember these things eh, Buzzer

While we are at it the little F86 I think was an Ex E.J.Thomas from Lasham airfield Alton, probably an OD took the motor on as they had a lot of subbies, Buzzer
