I think these refuellers were rare. AEC i think. I am sure someone like Graham or Chris will know
about them. :unamused: hi dean these were used in airports for refuelling planes.

marktaff:
Hi Dean,
That’s a blast from the past Porters of Derby !

Hi Dean i think it’s custom built Foden KR6/24 ‘Python Mk.II’ aircraft refueller made by Thompson Brothers for Esso
They were a common sight back in the day at major airports.

Thanks for confirming make Paul. Some nice pics as well. Why were the cabs so big out of intrest does anyone
know ? If they were based at airports surely the crew would not sleep in them so it seems strange why they
are so big ■■? :unamused:

moomooland:
Here’s a later version of the Python, bet that cab was like a greenhouse in summer.

Hi,
There must have been a dozen or more of them parked together at Filton in Bristol during the mid to late 1970’s.i was in the air cadets in porthcawl back then and we used to go there flying regularly,an awesome sight.Amazing vehicles.Regards Andrew.

Thanks for your comments Andrew, i bet that was a sight !

I seem to remember someone mentioning that B.W.O.C had a complete Python outfit in their yard in Somerset?

What’s going on here? Why would a horse racing fan (I assume that’s what he is) be driving a tanker? Is he unaware that it is possible to see through the windscreen?

More importantly, why is the roof on the cab that shape? Does anyone know?
[/quote]
I think back then, in the hot weather, a water bowser would follow the horses arround the course ( a horse drinks over 2 gallons a day ) under old health and safty regulations.
The roof of the cab has been raised to accommodate the regulation top hat, of course :open_mouth: :open_mouth: Harvey

Hi Dean, I think the Kellogg`s ERF and trailer is Aidleys Of Irlam, near Manchester. Regards, Ray.

Found this on ebay this morning. I spent a summer driving Border Olympia back in the '80s on United Glass work. Rolls 265 + 9-sp Fuller. Robert

Hi Dean,
I do wonder if this is ex Mansel Davies driver,Colin Wilshaw driving the Transcon? Our West Wales expert,EC14 will know for sure.
Regards Andrew.

The large area of glass above the driver was for clear visibility of aircraft’s wings etc and the large extended cab of this Foden KR6/24 ‘Python II’ aircraft superfueler housed all the pumping equipment needed for refueling all types of aircraft.

I wonder where that Esso Foden ended up after it’s service.

Yes definitely Colin Wilshaw driving the transcontinental with an ex D P Williams trailer that Colin later sold to Charles Footman, I think Footman still has it.
