I may be wrong but I think that ERF of Knights could be seen parked between Beeley Village and Rowsley in Derbyshire. I seem to recall a powder tanker parked there at one time as well.
I’m sure one of our Derbyshire lads will put me right.

Aye Chris, Knight’s had a yard, house and filling station there but now all gone alas. I got fuel from there regularly. They had all sorts of vehicles in the yard until the end, old Dodge’s and various ERF’s in different stages of decay, an ERF fourwheeler chassis/cab with a tree growing through it was there for years! Dan (Punchy Dan) might know what happened to it? The Grouse and Claret pub at Rowsley had various photos of Knights fleet on the walls going back to steamer times, when the pub was redeveloped they didn’t reappear though. An old workmate of mine remembered Knight’s steamers going through Hartington pre-war. Our vintage club secretary ran an ex Knight’s ERF four wheeler for shows until he had a stroke recently and had to give his HGV licence up, it is fitted with a Gardner 6LW as Knight’s used it with a drawbar trailer. Here is a pic, (not mine, taken from the web) of it in B.J Waters livery as he part owned it with them.

Pete.
Aye Pete,I used to pass their yard regular when I lived locally,I remember it being a filling station. Didn’t a lass drive for them at one time? I wonder what happened to Grouse and Claret photos…
What’s going on here? Why would a horse racing fan (I assume that’s what he is) be driving a tanker? Is he unaware that it is possible to see through the windscreen?
More importantly, why is the roof on the cab that shape? Does anyone know?
Ford Trucks will launch a long-haul truck at the IAA Show in Hannover this autumn,
The tractor, which has been in development since 2013, will feature a 2.5m-wide cab and a flat floor.
Senior management are tight-lipped about what it will be called, but told CM they are “very excited about the name”. Following the success of the Cargo name, Transcontinental must surely be a contender.
The picture of Hargreaves Scammell tankers stirred the memories from when I did my 25 years at Hargreaves. A driver from Hargreaves Rothwell had one and it was on contract to us a Liversedge…Basil was his name, what a guy. He only had one eye and he had some sort of inner ear problem that affected his balance so that he always appeared to be drunk when walking about (he’d been medically cleared for driving).
One day Basil was under the gantry loading oil and the silly old fella had left the rear foot valve open “BASIL, stop stop, it running out of the bottom”…“Aye, p*ss off” says Basil and just kept the loading arm pumping. It took a long time to clear the spillage up…

Thanks for the info and pics Paul. I hardly ever pick up the new magazines so i never knew they were
building a new heavy duty tractor, should be intresting to see how it performs.

The shot of the Derrick Hill SA was D. Hill Junior from Penrith who after his Dad Derrick Snr met with a tragic accident in the workshop the firm he was a Partner in, and ran, Savage Transport, closed down and Derrick Jnr started up as an O/D. I notice that his whole outfit is shod on 1000x20 wheels which at the time when the shot was taken of what would have been a newish S/A and trailer is strange ! Must have been a peculiarity he inherited from his Dad ! Cheers Bewick.

the last lorry I remember down at knights was a C series unit ,I can’t remember where the 4 wheeler went ,the last lorry Knights ran was a E14 twin steer which iirc my dad and I looked at in measham auction in 1992 ,it was 5 yrs old and came from Northern Ireland ,we phoned the previous owner who said how good a lorry it had been for him ,Infact it had worked that hard for him my dad past on the idea ,and Knights must have bought it from a dealer .cheers Dan’l

Hi Dean i think it’s custom built Foden KR6/24 ‘Python Mk.II’ aircraft refueller made by Thompson Brothers for Esso
They were a common sight back in the day at major airports.
Thanks for confirming make Paul. Some nice pics as well. Why were the cabs so big out of intrest does anyone
know ? If they were based at airports surely the crew would not sleep in them so it seems strange why they
are so big ■■?
