DEANB:
Bibby Atkinson tanker.

A fleet we’ve seen before in this collection: the Atki was on contract from Gilbert Lawrenson, of Merton Road, Bootle

DEANB:
An article from 1980 that may intrest Seddon Atkinson and ERF fans.

The 401 was prepped at Walton-le-Dale, not Oldham, and it was the Atkinson plant that built the first 250 401s before it closed and subsequent 401 production continued at Oldham. The photographs were taken in the area around the factory - the ones used in this article are taken against the backdrop of Walton Bridge, as were countless Atki photos from the 1950s, 60s and 70s. Some of the other publicity photos were taken across the river in Frenchwood, within a stone’s throw of the Atkinson & Co. steam wagon works on Frenchwood Avenue

Sorry Dean, the RM unit is a MAN not a Daf and the TDG Volvo is pulling a Smurfit trailer.

That trailer with the black 45 gallon drums on,I cannot see any ropes at all,let alone a barrel hitch,to secure the load, bit iffy, even if the drum contents are non toxic.

Ammended chap ! I must admit i never looked at the pic properly as i assumed it was a DAF as they have
a large fleet of them.

Hi Dean.
The Hare TM may not be an extendable trailer just a 45 or 50 ft one, they fabricated steel structures for buildings etc. A lot of them long in length so purpose built trailer they had a few factories IIRC.

hi Dean thanks for posting Paul’s pic of Sainsbury’s Volvo Fm,I drove em out of Brinsworth & Maltby when they were new, great pic Cheers Alan F

An interesting Foden/ Harrisons article Dean, it seems they had exactly the same Gardner problems that we had and they also preferred the Rolls engine. I agree about the CAT engine as well, they had to be ‘driven’ like a ■■■■■■■ L10 and there was no low down power like with the Gardner and Rolls. Not that reliable either, our one was re-engined with a ■■■■■■■■

Pete.

My wife works at their head office in Bury and the transport dept told her that they are still running that trailer today. :astonished:

That’s a tidy sleeper conversion on that Seddon.

It’s a factory job - they did exhibit one like it in, I think, 1972 - and I’m guessing that it uses the panels and the roof from the dustcart to get the cab shell. Somewhere, I have some photos of the show exhibit, complete with its double bunks

Were there that many made? That’s the first one I’ve seen as far as I remember.
I remember seeing a lot of single bunk type conversions on Seddons of a certain design at the time There was a steel haulier in Stoke had a few of that type, maroon Seddons…was it Machins ?

Was it Critchlows ?

That’s the one Dennis,… Critchlows. :bulb:
Don’t know where I got Machins from. :unamused:

This is a shot of an ex Critchlow Driver we had based at Stoke for a while shot here pulling out of the depot on a Friday afternoon with a load of Libbys for London on the Monday. Cheers Dennis.
