I do like a nice Freightliner !
At the time Mark took these pics in the USA some of the Freightliners were badged White/Freightliner
due to Freightliner using White’s better dealer network in the USA and Canada to sell them.

That’s a tidy sleeper conversion on that Seddon.
It’s a factory job - they did exhibit one like it in, I think, 1972 - and I’m guessing that it uses the panels and the roof from the dustcart to get the cab shell. Somewhere, I have some photos of the show exhibit, complete with its double bunks

Were there that many made? That’s the first one I’ve seen as far as I remember.
I remember seeing a lot of single bunk type conversions on Seddons of a certain design at the time There was a steel haulier in Stoke had a few of that type, maroon Seddons…was it Machins ?

Who wants to look at REL’s ( rear end loaders ) when you can look at this !!! cant remember ever seeing a second steer axle set back that far, bet it suffers a bit of tyre wear.
I am sure some of you boys " if you can re focas your eyes" will put me right. HarveyFunny enough Harvey i have seen a 8 wheeler Scania locally that has a large gap between the front
steer axles. I dont know why they are building them like that ? There must be a reason ?
As it stands I am sure a shorter wheelbase would give better axle loadings without that large cab-gap and better manoverability ( needed on site work)
Could this set up be for a body swop for agregate in the winter ■■? got to be someone out there that knows

I never saw very many of them, just a handful of photos on the web of some. I don’t know about the steel haulier, sorry
Seeing as Dean is having a day off here’s a little something to keep you busy.

Longtons had a few Seddons with the sleeper conversion. Stoke firm.
Hi Dean, I know that this bus is not a lorry, but it is in your neck of the woods at Branksome Roundabout, Poole.
In the back of the picture is Kingsway Furniture, and behind it is where I used to park overnight, having delivered
to Remploy Marine Products at Alder Hills Road not far from here. Having parked up, it was 200 yards to the
Railway Hotel near Branksome Station for a decent meal, and a couple of pints of “Badger” beer from that fine
brewery in Blandford Forum, Hall & Woodhouse. I see that John Lewis and many other retailers are now on
Branksome Retail Park.
Cheers, Ray Smyth.

Hello Ray, Yes you are correct John Lewis now is on the site of Kingsway’s. I agree Badger best bitter if kept
right is a cracking pint.
Before Kingsway the site was a large Redland Pipes factory who took over a company called Sharp Jones.
I expect a few drivers on here will have delivered or loaded out of here !
Redlands operated a number of marathons from here.
This pic shows the new retails park being built.Kingsway were opposite that building being built in
the photo which is now a homebase store.
The texaco marathon in the pic would have almost certainly been from the poole depot that was
based at Poole docks. They later ran Roadtrains.

Hi Dean, Thank you for the info, and guess what !! There was a Redland Tiles depot here in the New Springs area of Wigan for many years.
The Wilts & Dorset bus in your picture is identical to the one that I posted, a Bristol VR with a 6LXB Gardner engine at the rear. Regards. Ray.

Who knows what make this vehicle is….
The British Ministry Of Defence - Army in June 1947 asked Vauxhall Motors to develop a range of 3-ton 6x6 military lorries, which had a range of
different bodies and applications. The development of these motor vehicles was switched to Albion in 1951.Due to high cost, this project was
stopped in 1953,and lorries of this class were bought from Albion and Thornycroft.
