Now that ERF looks like it could be loaded with tinplate , well sheeted ! Full marks ! Brings back many memories of my time on the Brady Octopus and trailer as tinplate was always our re-load out of S.Wales to the N.West. The sheets were like drum skins on those loads and you could look down either side through every eye on the hitches ! If he couldn’t on the N/s which was my side Eric would just say " rough job that Brother theres one an inch out" Happy Days ! Dennis.

Well if it wasn’t “on the bar” it was too ■■■■■■■ close for my liking ! Cheers Dennis.
Punchy Dan:
The waters Guy was driven by Tommy Kirk who lives just down the road from me , he’s retired now ,my uncle remembers seeing it run off the road on the m50 going towards Ross it was inches from going in the river .
Heres another shot of it Punchy Dan !
I don’t remember the Guy at all? Our vintage club secretary drove a four wheeled Big J for Waters but that ran solo and had a Leyland engine. His health was suffering through years of being away all week in digs and living on junk food so Waters gave him the Guy new so that he could have a ‘steady’ day and be home each night. His work for five days a week with it was run empty to South Elmsall to load at 7am for Newcastle upon Tyne, then back load from (I think) the Jarrow area to Gloworm at Milford (near Belper) where he had to tip before 3pm or the gates were locked. On Saturdays he usually ran empty to Bolsover and then loaded down to Leamington or Warwick. Doesn’t seem that steady to me? He now drives their ERF four wheeler (ex Knights Brothers of Rowsley) for shows!
Pete.
“Steady day” More like a steady day for the boss Pete

“Syramax” you need to go back to page 16. The pics dont show when you are answering other
peoples threads !
Sorry for the delay in replying but I’ve been away from the technology for a couple of days.
I can confirm that the two similarly- liveried ERFs were both from R.H.Goulding, Newent, Glos. The artic was driven by Geoff James from new and the dog ‘n’ pup was John Blewitt’s steed, again from new. I wouldn’t think that there are many photos of Goulding’s with steel on board- the rates weren’t good enough! This load had probably been picked up as a return load to pay for the fuel. Although closing it’s doors some time ago, the Gouldings name lives on with the founder’s grandson, David, who runs a single livestock six-wheeler ERF in the same colours.

Well “ROF” i thought the 2 x ERF’s were the same company, thanks for confirming ! Re Goldings carrying
steel i am sure you are right about it being a backload. As you are probably aware you can only post
10 photos at a time and the MAN was following the DAF and was the 11th photo !

Buzzer, you have changed !!! Whaterver happened to the old saying, just apologise and move on, “there are 3”
You still have that good sence of humour, cheers, Harvey
What a brilliant thread this is…thanks Dean for taking the time to post them and to Paul for taking so
many cracking photos…i started driving lorries in 1971, so can relate to just about all of them, bringing
back great memories of a bygone era…having spoken to you recently, i know there’s loads to come.
Keep up the excellent work mate.
What an absolutely fantastic collection of photographs, just been through all 17 pages.
Talk about Buzzers ‘Mary Hopkin’ moments.
I wouldn’t say that I’ve driven all the models pictured in my time, but there’s lots that I have driven at various companies, and what are the chances of this, there are pictures of 2 actual lorries that I have actually driven, and a good possibility of another one!
Sincere thanks and admiration to Paul Gee for all the time and effort it took to amass such a fabulous collection, and to Dean B for posting them on here!
Thanks Guys, Pete
Lorrys back then where so ugly but did the job and some did it well some didn’t , but you could catch the step or bumper and not need a degree in plastic welding to repair it , just a bar and a big hammer
