moomooland:

Wynn’s Pacific 6x6 heavy duty prime mover Reg No GDW 277 ‘Dreadnought’ pictured here in 1965 heading towards Manchester on the A5103 Princess Road at Northenden about to cross over the River Mersey.
This location is unrecognisable today as it is beneath Junction 5 of the M60 outer ring road.
Wynn’s ran six of these Pacific’s which were registered for UK road use and given the following names…
‘Dreadnought’ (Reg No GDW 277),
‘Conqueror’(Reg No HDW 122),
‘Enterprise’(Reg No ADW 228B),
‘Challenger’ (Reg No YDW 356),
‘Helpmate’ (Reg No GDW 585)
‘Valiant’ (Reg No 1570 DW).
Powered by ■■■■■■■ NHRS6B six cylinder in line supercharged diesel 250 bhp engines Wynn’s designed and built the crew-cabs and ballast boxes themselves.

Brilliant stuff Paul ! Heres the rest of them !

Nice one mate. I’ll show a few local older drivers over xmas the pic and see what they make of it.
I’m 99% certain it ran from either Tunstead or Eldon Hill quarry.

DEANB:
One for you ArcDaz !

Hi moomooland,
Thank you for sharing those wynns pacific images.i will always remember the unusual noise they made,i was only a kid at the time and didn’t realise, they were chain drive! regards Andrew.

One more for today Pete, click on picture to view it full size.

Seen here making a left turn off King Street on to Union Street Oldham.
The transformer would have been collected by Wynn’s from the near by Ferranti factory down the road at Hollinwood.
In those days, long before the M62 was built, many loads such like this came through the center of Oldham.
They would then proceed up and down the steep hills through Saddleworth and across the Pennines towards Huddersfield on the old A62 which is why, in this case, three of Wynn’s Pacific heavy haulage tractors were assigned to the job.

“NEI ERF. I wonder what this truck carried as the sides are very low ■■?”
Hi Dean, my guess would be small sacks of ball bearings or shot.
Oily"

The ERF belongs to International Combustion Ltd., of Derby.I think their place was on Sinfin Lane,I delivered steel there once or twice late 60s.
I don’t know what the NEI sticker stands for. :unamused:

Hello Chris, NEI was the parent company of International Combustion, and it also included John Thompson boilermakers of Dudley(?) and another boilermakers from the North East whose name escapes me for now. They specialised in making huge power station boliers when we burned coal and oil to gernerate electricity.

There was also an International Combustion Ltd. In Trafford Park.

I think it may be a Daihatsu

DEANB:
Thanks Oily for the information ! I liked the old Dolomite Sprint, quick car in its day. From memory it
had an overdrive on 3rd and 5th gears ■■? :unamused:

Optional overdrive on 3rd and 4th, effectively giving you a 5-speed gearbox

Anyone remember this company ?

It’'s kindest not to mention the unsatisfactory British vehicle… but then one of the photos clearly shows an Ergo Leyland!

Hi Dean,
The car is a Mazda imo.I had one when I passed my car test in October 1982.It was regularly parked up on llantrisant common    and in daylight hours used for visiting South Wales hauliers yards…
