Hi Dean,
Those milk floats were built near Tredegar.Evans transport did a lot of the work out of there and they also ran some Foden’s.
Regards Andrew.
That Foden is one of Cyril Williams’ of Brynmawr. Had a small yard next to his house on the road from Brynmawr to Sirhowy Pitch.

I reckon Paul may know about Northwest Freighters ERF.
Hi Dean, Northwest Freighters were from Haydock, and the trailer is carrying the name of Kraft Foods at Kirkby. Regards, Ray Smyth.
Thanks for your comment Ray !
That’s a cracking on the road shot Dean.
The late Peter Haworth ran John Marsh and Son (Blackpool) Ltd (Blackpool Van Transport) for 40 years.
The fleet mainly consisted of Atkinson’s, later moving on to Seddon Atkinson 401’s, ERF’s and a few Mercedes 1418 4X2 tractor units.
They were also the first company in the UK to take delivery of some Dennison tractor unit’s. A few of the Atkinson Borderer’s that the company ran seen here parked in the yard on Midgeland Road in Blackpool.
These three Mercedes 1418 4X2 tractor units are pictured here when brand new in 1968.
Parked in the depot on Midgeland Road in Blackpool the two on the left are in John Marsh and Son livery while the other, Reg No OFR 445G on the right, is in Blackpool Van Transport (BVT) livery.
An article showing the first Dennision 4x2 tractor unit to enter service with John Marsh & Son (Blackpool) Ltd.
An ariel shot of the long gone depot on Midgeland Road Blackpool taken shortly before closure.
Owner of Blackpool Van Transport the late Peter Haworth alongside Atkinson Borderer Reg No HXG 442 at Midgeland Road Blackpool in June 1986 which was later sold on for preservation.
In 1996 after some 40 years building the firm up to what it was operating more than 38 tractor units and 100 trailers owner, the late Peter Haworth, finally decided that enough was enough and decided to voluntary liquidate John Marsh and BVT not only due to health problems but mainly due to contract customers holding back payment and the ever increasing running costs etc.
Sadly Peter Haworth passed away in May 2006 aged 79.

Some fantastic pictures there Paul and some good info about the company. The yard shot is awesome,
thanks for posting !

The fleet at Northwest Freighters who were based in Haydock consisted of refrigerated trailers, dry boxes along with a few flats.
The majority of work for the reefers was for Kraft Foods of Kirkby, Raines Dairies of Enfield along with shellfish from the Isle of Man through Manx Hauliers (a Northwest subsidiary) for Belgium & France.
They also transported hanging beef from Kilmarnock to Antwerp Belgium while return loads from Europe consisted of cheese from Kraft Foods in Germany & Belgium, frozen chickens from Northwest France and frozen beef from Holland.
Here’s a selection of pictures sent to me back in 2008 by former Northwest Freighters driver Tommy Jensen who drove for them from from 1982 until 1990 when the company finally went under.
‘B’ Series ERF Reg No CRF 808T which was powered by a Rolls Royce 265 is seen here in Bruge in 1986 while delivering scallops from the Isle of.Man afer which time Tommy reloaded with cheese back from Namur.Another shot of ‘B’ Series ERF Reg No CRF 808T at Ostend dock waiting to board the Catherine Schiaffino in 1987.
Toddington services 1989 with Tommy Jensen bound for Kraft at Fallingbostal in Germany while Alan Deluce driving the MAN was going to Kraft at Namur both trailers were loaded with empty pallets.
ERF E14 Reg No F494 ABG powered by a 320 ■■■■■■■ is seen here at Muhlhausen rest stop while taking a load of cheese to Neu Ulm in Germany in 1989.Thanks again to Tommy Jensen for sharing his interesting pictures.
Thanks again Paul, some more great photos ! I thought you might know that company. I hate to think how
much a return ferry is to the Isle of Man,that load of scallops would have cost a few quid to do !

We used to park up with Kayfoam drivers in the old railway yard in Far Cotton, Northampton and frequent the Pomfret Arms round the corner. We used to eat at the adjacent Giggling Sausage café (part of the Super and Sizzling Sausage group of cafe’s) If memory serves, one of the Kayfoam drivers had the nickname of Jesus, I never got to know the drivers names for some reason? One of their drivers had a ‘dodgy’ night out and parked up on some spare land one day all was well until Granada Reports TV did an article about something or other and the camera got shot of his wagons’ fleet number and IIRC, he lost his job.
I used to pull trailers for Cheri Foam, they were bloody horrible things, single axle super cube step frame box vans, with the axle right on the arse end.
They were evil in strong winds, but that was cured a bit unconventionally. …they lined the floors out with concrete paving stones from a local concrete co. I kid you not.
You used to get some surprised faces when loaders opened the back doors, but it sorted the blowing over problem out all right.
I also used to park on that 4 fishes/super sausage park in Northampton, we used to play pool in the pub next door and head into town to the Opus 2 club of which I was a member

Hi Dean, it’s more than likely that Pauls photo of the Blue Dart Seddon Atkinson was taken on it’s way to the Vitafoam factory in Measteg as Vita used to send at least one thirty six foot trailer from Middleton to Measteg every day. We used to backload out of Addis Plastics near Swansea (I think), a paper mill near Bridgend, Girling at Cwmbran and Mattoy toys near Newport or else it was over to Avonmouth for a load of new empty forty five gallon drums for “up North”.

I never knew H&J had a depot @ Ellesmere Port, did they have a depot in the Luton area just off the M1?
