Thats interesting, At first glance it looks “to much truck” for a sort flat-bed but if you blow it up you can see a VBG coupling on the rear cross member.
I wonder what the story is behind that ■■ Harvey

A02384.JPGThanks for another rare picture Dean.
That’s 1974 registered Atkinson Borderer Reg No TWN 965N.

Pic 1 (1)-001.jpgIt is pictured here while coupled to a tandem axle flat trailer loaded with chimney sections from Thelkane Industrial Chimneys Fleetwood.

pic 1.A series ERF%2c outside Chisicks-001.JPGPictured here in 1969 LV ERF 4x2 tractor unit Reg No HFR 313E is seen coupled up to a
van trailer finished in 1950/60s livery with a hand painted Blackpool tower on the side.

Pic 3 (1).jpgHere’s a shot of the service bays and workshops at the depot on Midgeland Road Blackpool.
All BVT’s repairs, maintenance, paintwork and sign-writing were carried out in house, and spanned 3 generations in the family.
The fleets vehicles were often purchased second hand, and were altered if needed, re-fitted, painted and put on the road.
The workshop also boasted a fully automated truck trailer wash.

It’s a Longton Coachcraft sleeper conversion and is ermmmm… remarkably similar  to a Jennings sleeper pod, but without the side windows.
(Although you can make out the outline of the windows in the Longton mould which I now possess!)

Knocking the mighty Bedford !! :unamused:      We have all driven one or two
“ParkRoyal2100” but i still have a soft spot for them. They could earn you good money as they were
reliable, cheap to run, cheap to repair etc.
Thanks for your comments about the thread, paul will like that !

It was cheap alright. Reliable it was not.

Uncannily like me then.

Hi Paul, I was hoping that some of the South Wales boys might of remembered where Hughes Haulage yard was as I have been trying to find it on Google Earth.
I don’t suppose that you, Dean, Paul Gee or The Bubbleman have got any photos of vehicles from Blue Dart European have you as I have asked a couple of times on here over the years and I have never seen anything.
Paul, thanks for showing that photo of Brian Walsh on page 125, have you got any more ? He must be in his seventies by now and hopefully he is happily retired so please pass on my best regards if you still see him.
In 1975/76 Brian and I shared a flat in Windhoek, South West Africa but because we were both doing long distance driving we were very rarely at home at the same time, apart from Christmas and Easter.
Here is photo of Brian which I think was taken on one of his trips somewhere in South Africa, they certainly were very happy days.

Regards Steve.

The Fisons MAN carrying Ammonium Nitrate has a Huddersfield VH reg plate and I would hazard a guess at it being an LPG contract wagon…

Mushroomman, iirc Hughes yard was in Llanelli. They ran Leyland Boxer ridged vans as well as the Crusaders. I believe it was Fletchers of Swansea that sold both makes. Someone mentioned previously that Owens bought them out, or perhaps took their work over!

Regards Paul

Hello Steve ,Paul will read this and if he has any more pics of Brian Walsh he will send them to me.
However he is still going through his pics. As for Hughes haulage i would think Andrew or John would
be your best bet about where there yard was ? Thanks for the pic.

Not exactly, although we did make a brand new pod for someone in 1999 - that was actually for a working motor:

If people are posting these photos on facebook or anywhere else online can they please
respect Pauls wishes and leave the copy right on his and Mark’s photos. Apparently someone
is posting the photos without the copy right on them.

Paul is not impressed.

If anyone wants a photo without a copy right on it they only have to contact me. I have sent
loads to people for there own personal use without the copy right on. Paul has been as good as
gold and has not turned anyone down that has asked for a photo. All he asks is that any of his
or Mark’s photos posted online have the copy right displayed.

I am sorry to have to post this message as 99% of people on here respect his wishes. However if
it carries on then the photos will have the copy right plastered across them,or he may decide
not to let me have any more photos. If anyone sees any of these photos posted without the
copy right can they please contact me.

Sorry to hear that the “thieving Scroats” have been active on your site Dean, unfortunately some ■■■■■■■■ have no respect for other peoples work, I know because some of the Lads on TN put shots up of Bewick motors which they have found on other Platforms and they ask me if I have seen “this one” ! and I took the bloody shot in the first place ! I have even seen the odd one FOR SALE the cheeky thieving bleeders, but the trouble is that when a photo is put into the public domain it is impossible to prevent pirating and I would agree that to have a copyright plastered across them somewhat detracts from the shot but what can you do if the Scroats will not show respect and all they have to do is ask permission which I have been asked on occasion and have gladly agreed. Keep up the good work though. Cheers Dennis.

Yes,it’s annoying,I don’t have many photos of my own, more’s the pity but hindsight is a great thing - if only I had a camera in them days etc etc. Most of mine were taken int early 80’s when I was working for MFS. They have been copied and posted all over the place which I don’t mind, but when I found out they were for sale at at the Great Dorset Fair or was it Gaydon - well I weren’t happy. If you don’t post yer own stuff then you don’t get comments and further details, could be lost forever, and such a shame when you get older. :unamused:

Hi dean ,I hope people respect your wish I always put the name of whose pic it is I not on FB or any site to much trouble only on here I like the info people give and you learn a lot c,mon folks let’s not lose this site you ,Paul and mark doing brilliant work cheers John

Nice to see Pardoe’s Atki which he bought for two reasons: he needed a vehicle to haul his hay & straw and he had always fancied driving an Atki. His father and mine were great pals.
