The Barworth Haulage F86 would be either from Scunthorpe where their head place was or Bitmac refinery in Llanwern complex. They were Bitmac’s dedicated haulier but A E Evans did a lot of work for them at one time. Can’t see the hazchem code but more than likely 3WE 1114 Benzene or possibly 3YE 1294 Toluene. They collected crude Benzene from the South Wales coking plants for refining.Chemistry lesson over.

my dad bought XYD998N in its later life. It wasn’t that colour when it arrived in Wellingborough ,more like red , white and blue . lovely motor to drive, but had a tendency to boil with any weight on, I used her on mobile homes mostly. I wanted to swap the 220 out of her for the 250 in my wrecked b series, but packed up before I got around to it.

In the mid 70s I was on scrap/coal on a notional 20% of lorries earnings (gaffer weren’t daft we never got to know the rates).Coal Leics to Dickenson H Hempstead £6.50 scrap N London to Sheffield £13.50. So scrap both ways should have been a good earner Dennis. Don’t know that bit of road but seem to recall that all bar the M6 were hard going in ■■■■■■■

Intresting post “coomsey” some people still get paid this way today,a percentage of what the truck earns ! :unamused:

All the firms I worked for were 20% with the one exception Tarmac Cliffe Hill. There you clocked on /off so hourly rate but bonus on radial mileage. Different rates for dry n hot n backload n breakdown (quarry plant laying machine or lorry) plus overtime rates, time n a third, time n a half sats n nights n double suns .To put it in a nutshell they paid you what they fancied cos nobody could work it out.

W ERF-001.jpgFormer Walkersteel Mick Lamb told me that GCK 226N, new in November 1974, was originally a Blackburn based motor driven from new by Walt Gillibrand for the Tube department but he left in order to go tramping for Killingbecks.
The motor stayed at Blackburn for a good few months as a spare before being moved over to Grantham depot where it saw out the remainder of its working life as a Walker motor until it was replaced with a 311 Sed Atki.

Walkersteel-001.JPGMBV 907T, new in February 1979, was based at Walkersteel’s Pontypool depot.

This ‘B’ Series tractor unit Reg No MBV 886T, driven by Mike Lamb, is seen here in the yard at Lynch Steel (another Walkersteel company) on Canal Road in Strood Gloucestershire.

oiltreader:
Looks like the same unit at work Dean with a change of stickers Dean, Autocar and Transporters of Wythall.
Oily

Thanks “Oily” for confirming that !

Buzzer:
Think the Crusader is Laing Freight who ran out of Andover, Buzzer.

Cheers Buzzer i reckon the L on the front gives it away, too many companies to remember them all !

Scania 111 & fridge at Poole docks looks like Polar Freight Crossmaglen Co. Armagh - the company is still operating.

Since i last posted this picture a few weeks ago i have since been told that it was taken by Walkersteel driver the late Alan Holden who took it in ‘B’ Bay at Walkers Guide works Blackburn in 1972.

The company came about after the amalgamation of Knowles Vanlines with Dickinsons Transport of Rossendale in 1974.

Inter County Express were bought out by TNT as they moved into Europe in 1978.
