I’m five minutes away from Pontefract at the moment at the power station or whatever they call it these days and the part up to the M62 is virtually the same. I was in Ponte saturday night. Castleford is much the same too. I think Onward Transport was near the Shell garage but i could be wromg.Escape is just after the M62 on the left now which wasn’t there then

Check out the difference in the speed limits and the clearer signage in the day, just as I remember it, regards same.
Signage is so ambiguous and sparse now combined with continuously varying unrealistic limits, that it looks like a deliberate policy to criminalise drivers.

Same meant buildings and road layout. Some places are unrecognisable from 10 years ago , never mind 30 odd years ago.

Much of the South East is being turned into a high rise mega City in that regard.
Another point was the lack of truck traffic on motorways although it seems to be filmed on a Sunday which would explain some of it.The early to mid 80’s was also an economic recession as bad as the 1930’s.Weekdays were similar in the noticeable decline of commercial traffic on the roads.

Nothing much happens in Pontecarlo or Casvegas as the locals call them tha knows but there’s been a bit of a rush to the east coast and the east of west yorkshire in recent years due to reasons we can’t discuss on here

Unbelievably they are saying that even Harrogate and parts of the Cotswolds are also inline to undergo a development fest.
Kent and Surrey are toast.
But I can remember running into and out of Dewsbury at around midnight to 1am 5 nights per week at that time. The place was absolutely deserted. Not much different in the 90’s.

Harrogate and Wetherby are better parts of our region even though Harrogate is North Yorkshire. They are spending millions of £s on Bradford town centre why? because it is going to be the city of culture next year. They have left it to rack and ruin over the last 40/50 years , they knocked down a big chunk of the town centre a few years back to redevelop it then nothing for 10 years just a hole in the ground because no one would invest. They then built a new shopping centre and already M&S have closed and pulled out.As for Dewsbury the least said the better

I live in Dewsbury. It used to be a lovely old market town. Sadly that’s long gone .

It certainly was Brian but like the rest of West Yorkshire it’s gone downhill rapidly.

I remember my first time driving into Dewsbury, first thing I did was make sure my doors were locked from the inside :open_mouth: I won’t say anything that could be construed as being racist but if I say STWM you might get the gist

Oh Sweet Jeez dont go and get accused of being a racist on here ffs.:joy:

I nearly succumbed to the crack that Bradford was to be ‘The city of Culture’.

My immediate thought was…
‘‘Which particular culture is that then’’
But I stopped short.
I would never say that on here.

I needed an English/Bradford dictionary in Bradford. Backing onto a dock between 2 dropped trailers the bloke tried to stop me saying ‘owd la oppen tha doooers?’.
I was embarrassed because I knew he thought he was speaking English so I tried very hard and then realised that he was wondering how I would open my doors in the restricted space available. I had to explain that I had bifold doors and there was no problem at all in getting them fully open and folded back. :joy:

Note the RHD, Sweden drove on the left in those days.
I think I got the gist, almost, but we await the translation from Buzzer now. :grinning:

My maths teacher at school was married to a Swede and he left us to help the Swedish government with their RHD-LHD changeover in 1969 IIRC. Rumour has it that he replaced an Irishman who wanted to introduce LHD gradually, on alternate days

From the Scania picture and text it had done 110,000 mil…and yes, mil not kms but at that time 10’s of kms not miles.
I think…

I’m born and bred in Bradford and the place is done.Lawless for certain cultures.I’ve moved to the outskirts now but there’s not many decent places to live here. It’s unrecognisable compared with 35/40 years ago. The city of culture is a joke the city centre’s a joke .The labour run council is on the verge of bankrupcy. Barbers shops takeaways vape shops and any other cash in hand businesses are everywhere. The city is gripped with drug dealing and even though everyone knows who’s behind it nothings done. Rant over

Just sounds like every other city in the UK unfortunately mate.
