the more tyres you have on the road the more grip you have to combat inertia.

I woul like to have seen these draw bars simulating a bad angle on a link span or a hump back bridge but interesting anyway.
Who can remember the minestry having a dizzy fit about “Over All Lengh” when the tow bar extended when going round bends.
Cant remember the legal outcome. Harvey

Doesn’t look as if it has been knocked off, curious, I don’t remember not having a nearside mirror, cars yes, but not lorries. Were they once ‘optional extras’ (like indicators on French drivers’ cars )

The norm for that era ,49/50s , we had loads of them ( mk 5s ) at BRS Oxford and no n/s wiper on them either ,my artic was a pain without one and had to waggle steering to see anything behind on the straights . --toshboy

GOM mebe he had a rear view camera Buzzer.
When my old chap drove a Foden FG eight legger for Thermalite the company decided to ‘upgrade’ it and fitted a nearside mirror. Dad used to take his father with him occasionally and the first thing my grandfather did at the start of each journey was adjust the mirror so that HE could see what was happening behind!
Pete.
Manufacturers didn’t always fit nearside mirrors back then or passenger wipers as the pic also shows, it wasn’t compulsory. Franky.
I remember many years ago asking the old man, how did he manage when lorries only had one mirror? His answer " we didn’t know any different" .

Great comment Spardo,
I remember when they started fitting brakes on Italian cars as a back up in case the horns failed. Harvey

Another thing we had to contend with was headlights , n/s light into the kerb permanent ,the o/s for beam to pick up the cats eyes , switch beam off for oncoming traffic -no spotlights either -oh of course no heater -hand signals only.
