Ah Oily you know how to bring back memories …I had one just like that PYJ 546 I loved it although I used to catch the arse of my bib and brace on the ratchet hand brake when sliding out the cab !!! still I love that Mandator a mean machine … that one is’nt Dundee reg though ■■ thanks for putting it up… I canna mind a wiper on the passenger side though

It is a Renfrewshire registration probably a restored unit not a genuine Allisons vehicle.
Cheers, Leyland 600

These pictures are of one of my journeys to Mojacar in South East Spain.
It is Monday March 30th 1992, heading North, with about 60 miles between
here at Corconte, and Santander on the Northern coast. I had stopped to
make a fresh brew of tea, and have a Jimmy Riddle, writing my name in the
snow. On arrival at Santander, Bretagne was alongside in the rain, waiting
to take me and many others to Plymouth. I wish that I had taken my camera
with me more often back then.

Hi backsplice and Layland600, comments on flickr by Reiver Tipper suggest originally new to W H Malcolm, then Allisons, also owned by Alan Sime, Newtyle Commercials, then back with W H Malcolm.
malcolmgroup.co.uk/group/don … ge-centre/ you get a brief glimpse 57sec into the video and number 6 of the photos at the bottom.

Apologies ,both these pics have been posted before on another thread.
However Past and Present is seen by a much wider audience so i thought it worth airing them again.
Both where taken in May 1976, in Droitwich Spa,Worcs.
They where parked up on a large piece of open ground just off the A38.
This area was used by a number of folk for parking,as well as the site of the annual fair.
Its all changed now, the old Droitwich Barge Canal as been restored and the site is now a beautifully restored park
with the canal and River Salwarpe running through it and know named Vines Park.
I dont know why motors from the Potteries would be parked here, unless it was a regular stopover ,or the driver was local to
the area,.
I liked these Fiats, thay had a rugged handle anything look about them, helped by the Trilex wheels.

Who could forget a name like Clepington Road! Is there a Clepington Backsplice?

I think passenger side wipers were ‘unnecessary extras’ in the sixties - like heaters!

We had a pair of RAF bomber crew trousers in our house. They were leather with fur on one side and you zipped yourself into them. Very warm. Dad had bought them after the war for driving the furniture vans. Us kids loved them!

John

Yes John The name Allisons Transport and Clepington Road just rolled off the tongue whenever I saw one, just like saying Smiths for Service, Maddiston, Falkirk. I think the YHS registerd Mandator was restored by W. H Malcolm.
Cheers, Leyland 600.

Aye Lads …Clepington Road …I don,t recall a Clepington suburb it was always referred to as the “Cleppie”…so was the pub of the same name Every Sunday before noon there would be a steady stream of fully loaded lorries leave the yard …J&E trans were just up the road and a few years later (1969? ) D&D set up at the other end of the road but Allison,s had all but gone and Tayfreight started !!! these were happy days in my book … Dundee to Penrith or Kendall for a Sunday shift …and a game of cards at Ma Shepherds or Claras digs …on frosty mornings you could,nt see for blue smoke while all the lads cranked up the Gardners etc … oily I was in touch with Alan Sime a few years ago at that time he was running a Recovery set up he used to be a mechanic with Allisons in my day

I didn’t know they had been sold in UK. The top model of the range was powered by a (very) big 17 litre V8.

I reckon you need to know the tides before attempting this crossing !
