LOOK AT THE WAGES THEY WERE TRYING TO GET

Typical TGWU shilly shallying over a strike called by their stewards. Anything to stop paying anyone anything themselves. As a steward at the time of the '79 strike I resisted it as long as possible along with 100% of my members, but when they finally decided to make it official I was denied meagre expenses for my car covering hundreds of miles organising and encouraging pickets at all the customers. This because I was still recovering from a finger broken on the job and was therefore still ‘on the sick’. Worst union I was ever in. Even more so when they stood up for their docker members against their lorry driver members. Don’t get me started.

Oh, you have done. :unamused:

Nothing had changed even in the late 1990’s in that regard. My impression was that they just wanted the subscription cash while working against the interests of drivers in most cases.

There wasn’t many of those Seddon 8 wheelers built so I wonder if the Cyprien Fox motor was a “SD8” or an “DD8” ? and that’s a tidy Dodge 4 wheeler so in the absence of the Perkins badge on the grille I reckon it would have had the Leyland engine under the bonnet ! 350 or 375 ? Cheers Bewick.

Ah never had you down as a militant, never thought you would be in a job long enough to be a shop steward    Buzzer

Shows you how good I was then doesn’t it? But it is a poisoned chalice, you never know what you are getting yourself into. Once the boss sent for me because an irate driver was chasing him around the office, intent on murder. I managed to talk him out of it, the prospective murderer that is, perhaps he just wanted to shut me up.
