Guaranteed someone is going to say “why don’t you come off the limiter a few mph’s and sit back from him, paid by hour etc etc”Why are you on the limiter anyway in a 50 stretch of road
Hear hear…

My bugbear is things like what happened to me today. Passing Argos artic on the A14, I’m about a third of the way along his trailer when he looks up and notices another truck merging in from the slip road. So straight on with the indicator, and starts moving across on me, because he’s in an artic, and I’m not.Obviously I’m going to give in to him, because he failed to read the road.
Errr, who failed to read the road? You’re overtaking on a 2 lane road approaching an on slip.
Did you not consider it likely that the Argos driver may have a need to courteously move over to allow joining traffic on?This is a type of road layout where accidents frequently happen. You blocked his escape route off. You had positioned yourself as the meat in the sandwich, between the HGV and the armco.
Why should he have read the road differently? ■■?
At the end off the slip road is giveway markings so the joining vehicle has to give way to traffic on the motorway and change his speed accordingly.
I always back off it’s no prob and costs you seconds that’s all. If you’re watching your mirrors you can see what’s occurring before the other vehicle starts to pass, ease it back then a couple of kliks on the cruise and it’ll be over and you’ll be back on the limiter before you know it.
Iirc in this country we are supposed to give way to traffic from the right and allow faster vehicles to pass safely…
In the 90’s the French had a purge on fining the vehicle on the inside for keeping the other out there. Maybe that should happen here too.
I await the usual barracking…
You should have held your ground and waited till you both caught up with a tesco lorry or other vehicle going slower than both of you. Then you should have eased off yourself for a couple of minutes so he was stuck behind the tesco lorry to punish him for not letting you pass.
I’ll say something in favour of the 50mph limiters.
If you are being overtaken, it’s easy for everyone to get past.
If you are the one on the 50mph limiter - you’re not going to be doing much overtaking yourself, so drop the very idea.
When it’s 90km/h verses 55mph, you get problems. 85kmh verses 52mph isn’t much better.
Personally, if I find myself drifting up someone’s arse, I’ll knock it back a notch. I’m paid by the hour, so what’s my hurry?
Meanwhile, all the foreign wagons with the fuses taken out can continue steaming past us all at 70mph.
Lonewolf Yorks:
And I’m not paid by the hour.
And there’s the nub of the matter…

OP didn’t mention what road he was on so why assume it’s a 50 limit? Motorways are essentially 2 lane carriageways for anything over 7.5 tonne or pulling a trailer, yet they’re not limited to 50!
Some motorways are only two lanes full stop.

“but why should we ease off just because you don’t have enough speed to get past quickly?” etc etc.
Yes I agree, why should I slow because you cant get past quick enough, you should know better!
Highway Code (which many of you have not read for a very long time)
Rule 168
Being overtaken
If a driver is trying to overtake you, maintain a steady course and speed, slowing down if necessary to let the vehicle pass. Never obstruct drivers who wish to pass. Speeding up or driving unpredictably when someone is overtaking you is dangerous.
Drop back to maintain a two-second gap if someone overtakes and pulls into the gap in front of you.
nobody has to back off to let me past, coz I DONT DRIVE ON THE LIMITER.it
s so basic ffs
“move quickly past the vehicle you are overtaking, once you have started to overtake. Allow plenty of room. Move back to the left as soon as you can but do not cut in”
Also from the highway code.

And?
Yeah I’ll slow down to let some impatient person pass when I’m struggling on time to make it home for the weekend. As quoted I would maintain a steady course…thanks.
If dangerous I would obviously slow down and would NOT obstruct anyone

What a load of ■■■■…
Anybody driving @ less than 56mp/h is a time wasting rim licker…:):)

I hate getting stuck behind people who block two lanes for mile after mile trying to over take if you 1/2 a mile quicker just hang back I’m lucky I’m normally get past quickly but it’s the gravity runners that get me when your just past then they knock it out of gear and under take
Yep, I don’t want anyone to slow down to let me past but, it’s this all too common sort of ■■■■ that does annoy me. If they can’t out pull you on the straight you’re going to get past them eventually so what on earth is the point of holding you up. I bet they don’t coast down every hill when no-one’s over-taking.
I’d like to get a look at these dicks but the curtains always pulled half-way across, what a surprise.

It’s one thing to read it but another to fully comprehend it, which you haven’t by the way.
The HC is mostly for guidance. There is no legal obligation to obey Rule 168.

If your runs are scheduled to the point that slowing down a couple of mph for a few seconds is the difference between getting home or not, then you should seriously consider getting a new job
Or maybe that’s not the case, but you drive as though it is, on the limiter at all costs, nobody is going to pass you if you can help it
Attitudes like this are a big part of the problem, too many are I’m first and ■■■■ everyone else, a sad state of affairs

May I politely ask what further driver training you have undertaken since passing car and (presumably truck) tests? What Advanced Driving courses have you completed and tests passed?

But your happy to maintain present speed causing the overtaking truck to take miles to pass you on lets say a 2 lane carriageway whilst a backlog of cars builds up for a mile behind?
Now how many are you obstructing?
