Ive always been told this is a no-no but in the past few days I’ve seen more do it than I have in the last 20 years of driving. Surely a bit of snow doesn’t give us an excuse! 1 of them was a Stobart, I overtook him a bit further up the road while he was plodding in lane 1, WTF was the reason to fly past everything in lane 3 to then force people to overtake him
Could be that lots of drivers with little experience of motorways are using the motorways to travel for xmas. I’ve seen so many more cars join the motorway and head straight for the middle lane these last few days.
I got stuck behind one for 5 miles today on the M27. Wouldn’t move over even when it was clear so in the end I overtook in the outside lane. I was in an unrestricted 7.5t so it wasn’t like I was holding up traffic, but still shouldn’t have done it. Half expected her to speed up and leave me stranded, but she didn’t. I expect she didn’t realise I’m not allowed to use the outside lane (I’m assuming unrestricted 7.5T aren’t allowed to).
See a few on Monday morning on the M40 southbound, the traffic was only crawling along but at least 4 artics went down the 3rd lane-2 of em from wot i would call reputable companies & 2 johnny foreigners!
No exscuse they should be nicked!!
A couple of weeks ago on the M20 a Polish magnum went round me in lane 3 whilst I was passing a car. He then went past the truck in front of me and promptly slid sideways straight into the central reservation I wouldnt wish an accident on anybody but I must admit that did put a grin on my face
My truck goes really well (faster than most) but I am usually loaded with less than a couple of tonnes so when the snow does start to compact its a nightmare! I’d rather get to where I’m going in 1 piece than not at all and if hourly paid then i’ve earnt a bit extra for doing it as well

To be honest with the road craft being shown over the last few days, I wouldn’t blame them. Although undertaking is always a better option if it’s there.
that was me on saturday afternoon, the other 2 lanes on the m6 were occupied by people doing 15mph,now it was snowing BUT give me strength,if they are that scared of driving in the snow, then just stop at home ffs!!

First time I drove in heavy snow was in norfolk on the A11. A stream of bmw’s, mercs and mondeos flew past me and a couple of miles up the road 5 of them were stopped at the side of the road with dents and hanging bumpers and hazards on scowling whilst they exchanged insurance details. Couldn’t help chuckling and driving past with a smug grin. I take no joy from witnessing a serious accident, but it does make me chuckle when mr rep dents his car when showing off
Had a dirty white trailer on the last few days and was going to write in big letters “Do you really need to be in this traffic jam?”.

But will you still be chuckling when your insurance premiums go up to pay for their stupidity?

Good point.
My mate got done for that on the m20 going up the big hill towards the m25, 3 points and a fpn!
ive been close to doing it on the m8 because people are dawndering along at 35/40 in the middle lane and refuse to go any faster or even move over into the slow lane due to winter conditions, flipping stay off the motorway if you dont want to go faster on a clear stretch of road.
i know theres no excuse for it but what you meant to do when somebody refuses to move into the slow lane from the middle lane when its clear yet wont go past 35 when its clear? undertake or overtake? both are an offence if caught
A driver lost patience yesterday & overtook an artic on the Cirencester bypass, he/she never made it past though. The car spun out, hit the central reservation wire rope barrier & then took the under run bars off the trailer of the Artic. Obviously I don’t know which order the impacts were because it had happened before I got to it but as far as I’m concerned had the car remained behind the Artic, the car wouldn’t have been written off. I think everyone needs to accept their journey is going to take longer when conditions are bad. It’s not a competition to see who can drive fast in the snow, it’s all about doing what HAS to be done & getting home safe & in one piece. That’s the priority here anyway.
Stay safe everyone & Merry Christmas to all.

when was lane one designated as a slow lane makes me chuckle when the narrators on police programs refer to the fast lane and slow lane
I have no problems with being overtaken by a lorry in the third lane
if he can handle it in this weather,WHAT I do hate is these idiots
who have HAZARDOUS ON BOARD and carry on driving like lunatics
as they were on the M20 to Dover last Saturday around 1800hrs
one was English the other was a Austrian sorry they should have been
stopped and told to park up, and sorry to say the UK needs to invest
in better snowploughs and gritters
Are lorrys not allowed in the 3rd lane in some places (built up areas?), like on the M8 through Glasgow from townhead to the fruitmarket?.
I have had to use the fast lane to over take a gritter as a car in the slow lane would not move just sat there scared to go past the gritter so every body went pass it in the fast lane
I wish more lorries/coaches would use lane three when is perfectly legal to do so (ie on a four or more lane motorway) guess some drivers think you can only use the inner two lanes because when I’m overtaking a slower vehicle and their sitting on my rear bumper I can’t understand why they dont just pull out into lane 3 and pass us both if I’m holding them up that much.

When it more than 3 lanes you can use every lane except the outside lane,
