We’re always looking to improve our service to potential, new and existing customers and it’s good to hear from the customers point of view what they’re looking for. Your feedback will be greatly appreciated and we’ll try to respond to any constructive comments made. What do you look for when buying insurance? Is it all about service, price or benefits, or is it a mixture of them all?
Nobody plans on actually using the insurance, we only pay it because we have to.
Now, as it’s soo bloody expensive, that doesn’t mean that anyone who does have to use it (ie claim) should be screwed, but price is definitely the major factor.
For me its price and service, I had home insurance with Quinn really cheap, when someone smashed down my door with my pregnant wife inside (I had just gone to work so I assume they were watching me leave). When it came to claiming and needing help to secure my property at midnight, I was put through to their 24hr claims line (which was just for car insurance yet the number was in the policy book) I was told to arrange repairs to the doors myself (£150) and that I “might be able to claim the money back”. I just cancelled the policy.
I then went with Nationwide which cost me nearly 4x as much, but when on boxing day my heating system decided to empty all it’s water, I phoned up and within 35 minutes someone was repairing my heating system and it didn’t cost me a PENNY in excess! If I have to choose again between the 2 it would be Nationwide, what’s the point in paying anything for a none service?
Price & service. I can’t stand it when “they” give a low initial price for the first year & then try & shaft you at renewal time thinking you’ll be thick enough not to shop around.
Price primarily obviously but one piece of shoddy service & they go in the book. If the staff are arsey or useless is usually my main issue, suppose recorded calls would solve this.
Service and benefits for me, most insurance co’s see my car as a £3000 seat ibiza, it’s had more than that spent on it so I make sure the insurance co guarantee a payout price.
But you need to add to that openess, operators that are willing and able to explain things to people, not everyone is an expert when it comes to getting insurance. Don’t hide things, make all aspects clear, understandable and most of all there for people to know about.
Last year I was stung getting motorbike insurance for the very first time, the complication being ‘no excess’ which in real terms meant a £1300 excess, even after asking what precisly no excess meant, I was still not told about this aspect.
It doesn’t need to be full of jargon, small print etc, all people need to know is what it’s going to cost, what’s covered, what’s not covered and who to contact in the event of a claim.
Also, just give your lowest price, none of this faffing about with if you sign today I can get you £50 off, or bring us what you have been quoted so far and we will beat it. I don’t want to spend ages messing about with it, I just want the numbers.
Thanks all for your responses. It’s good to get some feedback from you.
I know that price is a main factor for everyone and we try our best to give you the lowest price we can in the market but we also aim to give the best service and advice available. We know that you as a customer are busy so the team will always explain the details of the policy and answer any questions the you have without wasting too much of your time. Also our service team are happy to help should anyone have any technical questions about their policy. All of our calls are recorded for training and monitoring purposes to ensure that we stay on top of our service.
It’s interesting that you mention poor service from a particular insurance provider, New Lad. We have also experienced customers coming to us because of poor service received from competing brokers.
If you have any questions outside of the poll please feel free to post here or send me a direct message and i’ll help any way i can.
I have just renewed my car insurance as wasnt happy with what I had been quoted from previous company as it had gone up from last year
So went onto the well known site to compare as well as a few other did look at the overall as no good just looking at the price as I want to know what I am getting for my money as the cheapest quote might not be the best
Then on the phone to a friend who did tell me about an insurance company that was trying to help HGV/Bus drivers with good quotes called them & they have give me a very good quote although a little more expensive that some of the others I had the excess is £150 with a lot of benefits thrown in which will in long term save me money
If it is ok I will post who it is as they do advertise in 1 of the truck publications
Do the one insurance company do quotes for car and motorcycle cover or is it just HGV’s? I know Adalade insurance do special rates for HGV/PCV holders.

the only thing one business offer is a cheap price, 13 years of commerical insurance they are the worst company i have ever dealt with, just a call centre that just want your money with no customer service what so ever. i cant wait for my policy to end with them. will never insure with them again even if it was free

Totally agree with the above, once they have your money, customer service is non existent. 1 year was more than enough for me.
I’m very sorry to you both that you feel you’ve had a bad service from us. It’s not our intention to make you feel like you’ve had a bad service. Please feel free to send me a direct message regarding your dissatisfaction and i can arrange for our Customer Services Manager to give you a call if necessary. We’re always looking to improve through customer feedback so if you wish to provide us with further information about your service it would be appreciated.
I must say that the above dialogue has totally put me off of the idea of getting a renewal quote from One Insurance. I currently go through Towergate and I just can’t fault them for service.
My renewal was high, i phoned company up said i was going to leave & hey presto the cost dropped by £150!!!
The renewal price is now what other companies had quoted me, so haggle or threaten to leave.
I can rule out the vast majority of insurance companies but I have a good one. Car 1 is a modified import which was never sold in this country and car 2 is lightly modified but they have mirrored my NCB so both cars are insured all the time. One is a daily driver for work and the other is now a toy or at least it will be once I get a drive shaft for it. The mainstream insurance companies would insure the V6 but would soil themselves if I mentioned the VR4 with all the mods declared. There is a list but only the EVO RS front diff bumped my premium up. Oddly the EVO 8 brakes made no difference
You don’t know how good an insurance company are until you make a claim , then they try to find ways not to pay out , only made one claim on my house insurance in the last 20yrs and it went fine , not made any claims on my car insurance ever , generally “troll” the net for best deal .
