grumpy old man:
Well, we never got to the pub.
Now lads, can you think of any senile old git, ex lorry driver of many years standing, someone who has spent hours standing at the refuelling pumps?
Now can you think why that dozy old bar steward would put 7 Gallons of finest Shell Unleaded Petrol into a diesel engined Jaguar?
Answers on a postcard to:- GOM, Dewsbury
I’ve got people ringing me up WHO I DON’t KNOW, all taking the ■■■■.
She went home on the bus, I went to the garage with the car on the back of a transporter.
No excuses, I just wasn’t concentrating.
£45 for recovery, 7 galls. of unleaded, and now really looking forward to the garage bill. Fingers crossed it didn’t get past the fuel filter. It only ran about 4 minutes on tickover.
It’s easy done Brian, I very nearly did the same with the lorry a few years ago. Luckily for me the attendant realized what I had done and didn’t turn the pump on. PS. Do you want to borrow my bike for a few days■■? After my three day jaunt I’m taking it easy for a week or so. Regards Kev.

With modern cars running on diesel its an easy mistake to make putting the wrong fuel in. Both of my vans are diesel, but Tracy’s car is unleaded petrol,so we have to be vigilant that the wrong fuel isn’t put in. Hope your car is OK Brian, and just needed the fuel pumped out.
Cheers Dave.
Well my 2.2 Diesel Jaguar XF wont let that mistake happen it has a safeguard system which stops petrol being put in, if a Petrol nozzle was put into the filler it automatically closes, There is a tool in the kitn that opens it back up in the event of this happening Im pleased to say because my older MGB GT Classis is of course petrol, Regards Larry.
A mate of mine put petrol in his Poche moved off to pay it cut out ( ex mechanic ) realised something was wrong it was in fact water he had put in tank he still had to pay for it took a while for it to be sorted but the garage eventually admitted it was there mistake it was Sainsbury in Washington that done this

I only heard of that fail safe device yesterday Larry, ■■■■ good idea I think.
Anyway, I’ve got the S type back and I’ve been VERY VERY lucky, I’ve go away with it, (i was dreading the thought of at least 6 new injectors), bottom line was £330, that includes a full tank of fresh diesel, recovery costs, etc. etc.
I won’t do that again. I struggled to accept (still do) that somebody with my experience could make such a stupid basic error.

All of us make mistakes Brian, no matter how experienced. The person who says, they have never made a mistake, is a liar.
Cheers Dave.

Hiya,
I’ve done the same thing but it was diesel into my current petrol engined job only got
about a fivers worth in then realised so I took a chance and bunged thirty quids of
unleaded on top of it and couldn’t tell the difference got a funny look off the lad in
the filling station when I rolled in to pay, always double check now it can be a very
expensive mistake to make as in your case Brian.

When we put a new motor on the road we used to always fill them up for the first time from the emergency 3000 gal gravity tank we had in the workshop, then from then on it would be filled up from the pumps and a correct mpg could be kept.It also kept the reserve 3000 gal of stock turning over, however next to this tank was a 600gal one full of cleaning fluid with both nozzles a few feet apart.Luckily,I came out of the office to see this driver happily filling the new 111 up with cleaning fluid,■■■■■■■ hell you dozy ■■■■■■■ ■■■■ *^++>@**!!!,just caught it in time,so all we did was drain the 111 tanks completely and start again,no harm done, but we certainly re-arranged the delivery pipes and made sure the same thing could never happen again Phew !! Cheers Dennis.

Hiya,
Dennis swearing isn’t in the vocabulary of “slingers” we have to keep up the façade of
respectability otherwise I’d have to denounce my title and get the blue plaque taken
from the door pillar of No 23 St Georges Quay. The Crooked House.
