Old Truck Accident Pics

Unfortunately the D1000 was never a fleet motor,an owner drivers motor yes because it would be driven with the utmost respect and consequently would do a decent job,but a fleet motor no way !! IMHO but others will hold different views.Cheers Bewick.

Those D series Fords were the biggest load of zb ever made no matter what powered them. :unamused:

Drove a few of them over the years loved them all. Great with the ■■■■■■■ in.

I drove a six wheeler with a 360 turbo Ford engine John, that went well and was light with a good payload.
Cheers Dave.

They did sell a lot though and some big fleet owners used them, cheap to run I’m not saying that this refers to you as I don’t know what you’ve been involved with but like many folk complain about motors that haven’t evan touched one which is like a lot of things.

I think I’m being a bit big headed ,so sorry I don’t mean to be.

Tony

I wouldn’t think there is anyone on the trucknet sold and driven more D series than you Tony , although they say a chap at Netherland green done a few miles in various ones .

did the driver make it out of the six wheeled Ford?

Yes he did.It had a V8 ■■■■■■■ in it and it was a fast motor.I collected it from Wisbech and it did go well and did Andy Yates good but his son Stuart was driving it and he ran out of road.Stuart started S.A.Y. Transport and always had high powered motors but it all went wrong.Andrew his dad drove an eight wheel Foden bulker.Nice chap is Andrew and good to know. Not many like him nowadays.

But of course he got out it was a D-Series-------Not because I’m biased as no doubt you have read some of my posts.

Now that should get the posts going !!!

Tony

Keep up to date Tony, Andy has been on the wrong side of the cemetery gates for a few years now, his wife Margret collapsed & died while at someone else’s funeral.

Ask Gavin about D1000’s he always claims his was the fastest motor he ever drove.

Are you at Lupin Farm next weekend ?

Hopefully I’ll be there Rob.I hadn’t seen Andrew for years and won’t do now.I didn’t know he had died.He knew how to back into Spaltons didn’t he.
We seem to go off the subject of the site but as usual one thing seems to bring up anoother.Should be on the D-series one

More folk bought them with the Perkins like Atlas Express,Federated,Although Ind Coope had some with the ■■■■■■■ which there is a picture on one of the brochures.Ind Coope bought 33 D1313’s for Drays from me .I wish I had a picture of one

Tony

A company on Teesside ran a fleet of them,McNays(nuts bolts tubes and fittings!!) as I recall they all had ■■■■■■■ motors in them, went like the proverbial off a shovel and sounded fantastic!! :grimacing:

ub at ashby had loads of them over the years, rigids and tractors, they had some of the very last ones on x regs just as the cargos came out.some where on here is a picture of me in a well worn w reg v8 perkins tractor just before they sold them off,a couple survived as yard shunt motors a job they did very well.

I sold quite a few to Moores Transport in Ashby.I went to fetch a York Trailer from Corby one Fr.afternoon and broke down in The going home traffic with an air lock in the fuel. All of a sudden a car pulled up on the opposite side and a lad jumped out of the car,ran to me and took a spanner out and bled it.I gave him a tip and he gave me the spanner. All well until Mkt Harbourough and she started playing up again and just managed to get into the station road but couldn’t get it going so found a copper leaning by a shop and he got Federated out to me and sorted an olive and no problems.More fleet owners than people think !!!
By the way it was a good useful spanner and some ■■■■■■■ broke into my shed an nicked iit.

image.jpgHere’s a wagon that went over in the centre of Golborne loaded with m/t pallets. The pallets have been shifted obviously. I wonder if the snow on the bed of the trailer could have been a contributory factor to the accident. The two jovial peelers appear to be pointing and laughing at something but I don’t know what.

Hi Eddie , we used to take timber into and pallets out of that pallet place in Golbourne cant remember its name the little grey cells are going Eddie ,Cheers Barry

I think it was “Unit Pallets”, we used to back-load out of there from time to time. If you were unlucky enough to load for one of the sugar factories the load had to be sheeted. At twenty pallets high you certainly got your weight !

I can remember them having an advert in the Headlight Drivers Magazine, I loaded there once in 1986, Three drops starting Teeside, Durham, & Newcastle, £105.00. Not a good rate, But they paid up as soon as the invoice was posted, So I was happy with that, The good old days before ■■■■■■■ mobile phones, Regards Larry.

Used to load from there when we were on the GKN Chep contract.

It was Unit Pallets when I was pulling out of there a few years ago Barry, still is as far as I’m aware. The accident was about 30 odd years ago but I think it was called Unit Pallets then. Prior to being a pallet yard it was an engineering works.

That’s not me in the driver’s seat by the way, it’s my dog. Oh and the Scania isn’t a kosher Centurion either, or at least that’s what they tell me.

Nice to hear from you again Barry.

Cheers. Eddie.

That is a blast from the past ,we used to back load out of there when the import timber from liverpool was finished. loads of ropes ,i think it was near some houses.

I would consider ‘Near some houses’ to be something of an understatement DBP. You’re practically scraping the gable ends of the houses getting into and out of the place.

How the residents have put up with it for so long I just cannot comprehend. The place is just a pain in the arse.

It’s difficult to see how this situation could be tolerated in the 21st century. But then again, it’s ‘up norf’, so it doesn’t really matter.

Eddie.

image.jpgLet’s have another wreck before we call it a day. There’s nothing like a bit of carnage, I find, to induce a peaceful night’s slumber.

This one occurred in Darlington St. East in Wigan, just down from Bulldog tools.

O.k. I know it’s not a truck, but it’s an accident, and it’s old, and it may be of interest to anyone who lives in Wigan.

Yes, I know it’s difficult to believe that anyone actually inhabits the place, but there are worse places you know.
