There i was minding my own business heading up the M5 from Penzance back home to Preston, when two vehicles heading in the opposite direction decided to have a fall out, the Blue Mondeo in the pictures came of worst after being pushed across the contraflow through the cones and under the front of yours faithfully.
Three squadies in the Mondeo, the rear passenger who was sleeping received a broken arm, the rest walking wounded.
The impact sheared of my steering hence the reason I’m right across the other carriageway.
Guess what the other vehicle involved in the argy bargy drove off, Thanks Buddy. !!, Gave himself up at the services…
It was in Holland, you are correct in that the Dutch demanded the the wide load was turned, then the Police took the vehicle onto the wrong route, the route that had been organised by the Dutch Police!!! It was destined for delivery in Charleroi.
Spot on “hopey 1945” and well corrected. I remember hearing about it at the time it happened from R.K.Crisp drivers who used to use the ferries from Southampton. They reckoned the bill for the bridge was said to be around three and a half million pounds and in 1971/2 when it happened would have been an awful lot of money Don’t know who eventually footed the bill though. Regards Nobby.

did the driver make it out of the six wheeled Ford?
Yes he did.It had a V8 ■■■■■■■ in it and it was a fast motor.I collected it from Wisbech and it did go well and did Andy Yates good but his son Stuart was driving it and he ran out of road.Stuart started S.A.Y. Transport and always had high powered motors but it all went wrong.Andrew his dad drove an eight wheel Foden bulker.Nice chap is Andrew and good to know. Not many like him nowadays.
But of course he got out it was a D-Series-------Not because I’m biased as no doubt you have read some of my posts.

Those D series Fords were the biggest load of zb ever made no matter what powered them.
They did sell a lot though and some big fleet owners used them, cheap to run I’m not saying that this refers to you as I don’t know what you’ve been involved with but like many folk complain about motors that haven’t evan touched one which is like a lot of things.
I think I’m being a bit big headed ,so sorry I don’t mean to be.
