Look at all the “British” cars
Looks like the Erf is one of Stirlands from Nottingham.
1970’s three lane tarmac rural, street lights and wire reinforced central crash barrier near to Shaw and Kilburn. What was the extent of the two lane section south of Toddington? I thought it started almost immediately so it can’t be in that bit.
Edit add:
The transit at the front is S suffix so 1977/8 or later. I wonder if this is slightly further north, somewhere around Flitwick?

My old man used to have a Talbot horizon like the one in the pic ,think they had a Simca engine
If I remember correctly, the two lane section on M1 was J7 southwards. Cav, could possibly be just North of J12■■
isn’t it funny how all those years ago, they can shut lane 2 and 3,leaving lane 1 and the hard shoulder open.no drama, and now even when someone has a blowout the motorways closed with 2 dozen hi viz bean counters swarming about…not including closing the m6 for 3 hours to remove a dozen chilled Taliban from the back of a fridge 2 mins away from the services ffs!!..I reckon that they wouldn’t let them off the trailer as they wernt on euro pallets…

…or because they weren’t wearing toe-tectors; or because they hadn’t been shrink-wrapped on euro-pallets! Robert
Hiya…i’ll go with Stirlands from Notts. the Black and white ERF is Lankro from near Eccles so i’d go with
southbound M1 about 1/2 a mile after Jct 11 Luton the road used to go round to the left as you started
climbing…all changed now as its got a longer slip road and 4 lanes…there must be some rubber necking
going on northbound theres no traffic at all going north. unless something happend northbound first causing
some hold up southbound and the ERF has nearly run into back of stationary traffic so hes gone for the middle.
John

■■ The Triumph TR7 (lost it’s front reg plate) is perhaps the only “British” car really in that pic

I know, that’s why I highlighted the British part with speech marks.
All those in the picture e.g. Range Rover, Ford Capri, Ford Cortina, Ford Granada, Talbot Alpine and a MG were all 'British Built ’ at the time!!!

The mk2 Granada was never built in Britain & as for the Capri, Cortina & Alpine (Talbot/Chrysler) some where built in Britain but not exclusively
Also not 100% sure that is an MG as it seems too big
What is the van behind the maroon MG? a diesel Transit, a Bedford CA, or a Sherpa?
Possibly an Austin J2 , or a Commer
What is the bloke in the TR7 up to , he looks a bit green , like the Incredible Hulk , but I think a TR7 would be a tight fit . He also appears to be gesturing , or possibly asking if anyone would like a coffee

One early morning in Kendal, when " I were a lad our Maurice" and I was going to the paper shop to get the papers to deliver,I got down to where the road turns sharp right around the Provincial building and there was a semi trailer parked square up to it’s legs into a confectioners shop, spot on clean thro’ the door and shop window,it had come off the turn table as the motor went around the 90 degree turn,he couldn’t have aimed it better, and no one was hurt I hasten to add ! Cheers Dennis.
