Old school hauliers northamptonshire

I have been on yell.com and searched for hauliers in Northampton

PC Howard, SW Wreford, SMC, gunners, woodview, hewit, spectrum, action express, ME brown, great bear distribution, CFM traction, black & decker, marinetime distribution, ch swann, wincanton of morrisions, acumes, eoremost transport, EBS, wardale & Keach, BSL, GB logisitics, NYK, able transport, CFA transport, john tigges transport, gadco enterprise, interechine, P chaplin, metro express, palletways, unitalk bulk transport, TGP trunking, EDH, G&R distribuiton

Been round a few of the address listed above today and its ever a house hold address (probaly an owner driver) or you turn up at a fancy electrical gate and have to press a button to speek to someone and are told to bog off and go and see the agency

Without visiting the whole list Im look to be able to talk to a human being and have a stright answer
The kind of haulier that is a 3rd party haulier that dose not pay you to sit in his drivers wighting room and has his drivers running round wild just to show a profit

Black and Deckers haulage is done by Mainland, who I don’t see on that list, but they have 2, 3 units at most in there. Not sure how much runs out of the main depot the other side of town but I very rarely see anything above 7.5t out and about. Also I think it was on here a month or so back that they are merging with Knights of Old.

Chaplins of Roade last I remember they were brought out by Wrefords, who haven’t long opened a second yard in the town, but then I’ve heard not so great reviews regarding Wrefords my whole life as I used to live near their original yard.

C. Butts are based in Northampton, not sure what kind of contracts they have now, 12 years ago I used to go out with my Dad when he did weekends on their Homebase contract but iirc DHL have that now.

Depending on how far you want to travel, Wyvern Transport, Whitworths and Knights of Old are over Kettering/Wellingborough way.

Whilst it may not be the sort of work you’re looking for, and I’m not 100% on the validity as it’s something I was told the other day, a couple of DCs are set to go live soon on Swan Valley and are supposedly looking for drivers. Failing that, there’s always Carlsberg?

is Wyvern Transport in essex?
I though Black and Deckers vent under at brackmills
Knights of Old is just out of the question

Black and Decker were brought out by Stanley and everything was moved round the corner to the Stanley site. I’m pretty sure the Black and Decker building is down now. Mainland still do the transport though, speaking as an ex-warehouse employee there.

Wyvern Cargo are in Kettering, or at least they have a depot there, could be an Essex based company?

As for the DCs opening on Swan Valley, not sure, as I say it’s just something I heard. I do know a couple of units are nearing completion, not sure who’s bought them though.

How about Hornigold Haulage in Wellingborough ?

I worked for them for a short time in 1999 on euro work, dont think they do much of that now but they were a old stylee haulage company.

yer i know about them
did a day on agency for them it was ok
went round 2 weeks ago but said he was covered and quit at the mo
but will pop back in some time later to see if things have changed

anyone any dealing with pc howard?

Hope you don’t have to sit a spelling test or you’re buggered…

Seriously, you just have to be methodical and very, very determined. Pester them, be there on a Monday when drivers are calling in sick with your gear, ready to work.

On Wyvern’s website you can download and print out an application form. Don’t bother trying to get through the gates at Knights, you can get an application form from the security guard on the gate but I’ve sent one in and applied online twice and never had an answer. Wyvern’s used to be on Sanders Lodge Estate in Rushden and I’ve seen their trailers parked in Chowns Mill where Grants Freightroute, Titans, and I.T.S. are based.

You could try signing on with Phil at Driver Direct Solutions at Chowns Mill. I’m signed on there (no work yet) but I know he supplies Hornigold and possibly Grants and Carr Brothers.
