Back to Eagle Transport, I remember being in London one day when Skipper Bisset came onto the hill, he had come through the B/W,Tunnel & his windscreen popped, ,He allways cabed it summer or winter, he was pretty tall so he would be a bit cramped in the LAD type cab, so he booked a bed at Tonys in Mansell Street, just up from the hill, Albert Greenwood & lots more Newcastle drivers took the p all night, they even laughed & told him he would get bed sores, But he he took it in good fun, Im hoping he is still about, because he might have photos which I hope he has , but get him on here & he will have us going for sure, great lad was Charlie Skipper Bisset, he had a boat at Ryton, hence the nickname Skipper, Regards Larry

Don’t know Charlie Bissett you mention but would he be from the same family as owner driver Roy Bissett from Ryton. Had a 4 wheel Albion tipper working out of Springwell Quarry early seventies when the Western by pass was being built.
He packed in few years ago, his last waggon was 6 wheel Volvo.

Could be related to Roy,Charlie was from Ryton also, not a common name. Regards Larry

Aye we got It second hand for £50 notes , the full air kit was a lot heavier & would have put the Tare Weight up by quite a bit, it did the job, perhaps not as nice to look at but it suited us. Regards Larry

Ours was uprated to a 290, it used to pull like a train, not bad on fuel either, the grill was a fibreglass one . It was the later type. We had a little bit of bother with the hub seals , but we fitted stemcos, & it seemed to cure it, but mind you they did run extremeley hot. Regards Larry
Another old firm comes to mind Andeas Gilberg fish hauliers from North Shields, they ran a lot of Albion Chieftans, green livery very smart in their day. any photos about, from the 50/60s. Also Burgess Transport fish hauliers, ran 8wheelers.Regards Larry
