Hi Larry
Freddie horne also had cattletrucks in the forties/ fifties, as did Hesletines of Toft hill. Freddie Horn had a Manchester Terrier dog that travelled everywhere with him and dad always made a fuss of it so when it had pups Freddie gave one to dad.It too loved travelling in cars and wagons. I emember (just) Freddie Hornes cattletrucks, I think he had twon and the colour was the same green then.
best wishes
Carl

Just been on the WH Williams thread and bodybuilders have been mentioned. We mostly dealt with Robsons at Blackhill, Randolph at West Auckland and Dependable at Swalwell. Can anyone name any other local firms building tippers and flats.
And here’s one for Larry – can you remember when tipper bodies had to be calibrated by the local weights and measures dept.

Yes, I drove a 6wheeler Dodge for a while at Smilers, most of theirs were done, bit of a pain when you had to get in the back a level the load out so it matched the grooves on the two steel markers, No HAS, in those days Eh, we just got on with it, It must not be on the go anymore. Regards Larry

Thats Micks tricks allright, Im sure he had 6 more than a monkey, I remember being down London in the 60s, We were on the Hill waiting for return loads, There was a barbers shop nearby, so I went for a haircut, It was a bit of a flash salon type, But you could get a scalp massage & a classy haircut for 10bob.while I was in there Mick came in , & said to the Barber Ill just have the same as him, meaning me, I was finished before him, & went to the cafe next door, the I heard the uproar, Mick would only pay 5bob, & stormed off Efin&Blinding, the barber came looking for him, & asked me who he was, I denied ever seeing him before that day. safe bet wouldnt you agree, Happy days,Regards Larry

Yes, there was the Northern Coach Builders, Claremont Rd I think., & Duncan Stanners at morpeth did for a while. Regards Larry
J S Robsons Blackhill changed to Northern Assemblies, others I can think of Anthony Hoist (Carrimore) Harelaw home market and export, Walkers at Thornaby built light weight steel bodies for trailers & rigids.
