Hi Larry,
Sorry these are the only photo’s I have of McKenna’s wagons there were some more down on display the yard (I believe) but I don’t know who would have them now, these were just some I took and found recently, I wish I had taken more, especially of the new MAN F90 22-421 with twin splitter I drove after the Scania as it could catch pigeon’s and I never gave it no mercy :smiling_imp: . I left there in 1996. Jerry now works for Jenkinson’s from Penrith, Barney is still running the one wagon and I believe providing training to drivers for the driver CPC. Kevin M (the brother in law) he set up on his own doing a mobile vehicle paint chip repair service. If I see them I will pass on your good wishes. Paddy is still on the go, but he doesn’t get far these days.

regards,

Kevin.

Yes I remember them also Hann & Newbey with the yellow tippers , was there any connection ? Warden Newbey did sand , possibley from Sherburn the yellow sand Quarry.

Thanks for replying, Lawrence and Tyneside.

I’m sure that he loaded from Houghton Quarry too, as I remember from a trip out, although I was only about 7 at that time, Don’t know if Warden was associated with Hann and Newby, I assume that he was just a typical small owner operator, running 4 wheel tippers.
Don’t have any pictures, so here’s hoping F7sidd can help ■■.

Regards

Phil

Here are some photo’s I took of trucks on the show scene circa 2007

An old picture of one of Ridley’s of Allendale parked up over the South side of the bridge at Haltwhistle on the old Plenmeller road.

Red viking in his prime !

  • A blast from the past, the Red Viking stopped to pick me up the day I ran out of petrol at Melkridge just after passing my driving test (Nov 1982). He dropped me at my work place - Elliott’s of Haltwhistle so I could get the breakdown out and bring the car back  , used to speak to red viking on cb regular after that, but haven’t been on air for few years now…is he still around?

Red viking to good samaritan that day then ,hes been retired about 18 months now so keep a petrol can in the boot .

Hello Brian. Where was the picture of our FL10 taken? Pity about the Bumper! Dad was cross about that. I’m sure Keith Brown was responsible!

Does anyone have any photos of Les Telfers timber lorries?

Are they now known as R H Scott? I often see them in Blyth Docks and wonder if they are the same. What ever happened to Les Telfer? If not, they are a very similar colour!

No. Robert Scott drove for Les telfer. he bought a Volvo F10 off Les and worked as a subbie. Robert now runs out of Les Telfers old yard at Stonehaugh.

G715PRM.it was ex Stobart. The FH is now gone. Peter has a 54 plate Renault Premium and a DAF 75. That FH would be like driving a boat when it was full of livestock.

That was it though I’m sure Davey Humble had it for a while, I think he pulled for Durhams. That FH was a prime example   god it was awful

It could well of been Davey Humbles. I’m sure He worked for Durhams. Also Billy Burr from Fairmoor at Morpeth. He lives next door to my Gran. I remember Billy had a volvo F7 tractor unit followed by ex Siimpson bros Scania P112, A800NNA. I’l ask Billy when i’m next down there.

Billy Burr used to be our milkman  does Richy still run wagons?
