Another long gone haulage Co Wm, Young South Shields, any photos about ? ran a mixed fleet vans & flats, I think when they finished Stan Young started up again as Gordie Express, at Simonside if I remember correctley red wagons ?< Regards Larry.
Remember Young’s Sth Shields very well. We used to often have one or two flats on hire to them. Timework on the Tyne Dock unloading the timber boats. Timber would go straight to the various merchants on and around the dock.
Young’s garage was at the end of a street of houses just past Tyne Dock. The driver’s strike was blamed for them going out of business. Young Stan did start up again at Simonside on the Ind Est. Goerge ( I think he was called ) had been the foreman fitter at Youngs also went there.
Lawrence,
Can you remember a bloke from South Shields called Warden Newby. He ran a small fleet of red Leyland Lynx and Bedford TK tippers, in the early 1970’s.
When my Grandfather died, My Grandma later married Warden, and I think he became Alderman of South Shields.
Just remembered about him, and he Passed away in early 80’s
Phil.

I can remember wagons in Warden Newby colours knocking around Shields. Like you say TK and Leyland tippers. All four wheelers I think. Seem to remember did a lot of yellow sand. Not sure where they loaded it or where it was delivered to.
Yes I remember them also Hann & Newbey with the yellow tippers , was there any connection ? Warden Newbey did sand , possibley from Sherburn the yellow sand Quarry.
Are you thinking of the dreadful N reg FH or the equally terrible G reg FL10? He had an ex Safeway FL7 Tractor unit also. The late John Bushby of Stamfordham had this stretched to a 6X2 rigid and peter bought it when he packed in.

Hello Brian. Where was the picture of our FL10 taken? Pity about the Bumper! Dad was cross about that. I’m sure Keith Brown was responsible!

Hello Larry. The scania 112 Allan Henry had was a sleeper cab. THH 173X if i remember rightly. It was ex Peter Hinchcliffe, Carlisle i’m sure. They still have it i think. The Henry’s also had an A reg Volvo F12 which i think was ex Cleanaway. I may be wrong but i think Alan Cowan may of been the buyer of Dougie Marshalls Day cab 112. At least I remember him having one. John Manners at Battle Bridge, Alnwick also had a day cab 2 series unit. Dan.Lawrence Dunbar:
Getting back to Dougie Marshalls wagons Im sure Allan Henry the farmer from West Houses Farm bought a day cabbed Scania Unit. Regards LarryI drove the Scania odd times for Allan I took it up to the Highland show some years back when he had those loveley horses , I thought it had been one of Browns of Carlisle ? It was a canny motor to drive,I did a few loads of grain for him as well. Regards Larry

G715PRM.it was ex Stobart. The FH is now gone. Peter has a 54 plate Renault Premium and a DAF 75. That FH would be like driving a boat when it was full of livestock.
Does anyone have any photos of Les Telfers timber lorries?

Are they now known as R H Scott? I often see them in Blyth Docks and wonder if they are the same. What ever happened to Les Telfer? If not, they are a very similar colour!

Les sold out to Robert Scott one of his former drivers and retired to Cyprus. Robert now has a canny fleet of motors himself. Les has since moved back to the UK and runs the paper shop / post office in Bellingham, so if your passing call in you never know Les or Wendy could be in there working.
