Shiny new Atkinson ‘Silver Knight’ with Waugh, c.1970
Loveley photo, I used to load Carnation milk in the 50s for Baxters Road Services, Quayside Newcastle. It was all hand ball in those days but one of the nice & clean jobs. in 1967 Bob Kinghorn took Baxters over then got together with Tony Waugh, Hence the name Waugh Road Services Ltd. thats when it became palletized, clever stuff , the cartons came on there pallets uspside down went on to a machine with your pallet on the top & turned over so the cartons were the right way up. , how about that, a genius idea to say the least. I could be wrong Larry, that Atki could be Parky’s mk2 VNL494H which I inherited in 1972. Your right about the Carnation coming out upside down. Do you remember the warehouse door at carnation? There was a steel lintel inside so low the tractor had to stay outside, also for some reason it was always windy in Dumfries and trying to find somewhere to get sheeted up was a regular challenge. regards kevmac47.
Aye & on a slope too. Remember Jimmy Kaye the little tw>>t in charge of loading, I put a carton on upside down once when I was loading, the little T waited till I had stacked another 5 rows then insisted that I put it up the correct way, then he asked for a lift into Dumfies to go to the Bank, so I said ok but make sure you dont make a mess in my cab, the cheeky sod, never liked him anyway, but nor did an of the drivers . Cheers Larry
A little few shots from Moody’s old Stakeford Lane Depot circa 2003
John Arthurs is another company with a nice livery I modelled but I still have to get around to finishing some small details and build a trailer. ■■■■■ do you know if Stan Bolam is still around, he drove for them and worked with my old man at Ouseburn, Lovely bloke, I used to have a natter with him when loading chemicals out of Sunderland. He drove an Atkinson MkI Eight Wheeler at Steenburgs and they say he used to stand up to get it around tight bends, he loved it though. Cheers Franky.

Just been to Barnard Castle truck show - fair play to all the lads, even due to the weather they had all the wagons spotless. Matty wouldn’t buy his own chips though - the tight arse - although he did want a diablo sandwich and a Dr pepper! Also, Brian F7Sidd, your F7’s outstanding. You looked very proud mate, and well you should be. Good luck to all the lads up the show - I didn’t take mine as I was being lazy, sorry!
Anybody got any pics of steel co. Robert Frazer Group of Hebburn T&W IN 80s, blue ERF A&B series.

The photo was one of two that hung on the entrance to the office at Waugh’s top yard Benton square both with a load of
carnation milk on the trailer, if you look close you will see one carton of milk is upside down.
Kevin VNL 494H had a chrome lower bumper its VNL 647H in the photo which was the same spec as 494H that you
had.
Aye there is one, Jimmy [T…t] Kaye must have been off when that was loaded,he had eyes in the back of his Scotch heed.
