F7S. can you rememeber what year you are refering to to about S/B. Cramlington ?. Regards Larry

Hello Larry i think it was about 83/84 when Steven Bamburgh had the 6 wheeler F86 on the coal, his dad was a subie for Fergies with an old merc unit in Fergies colours. i think steven would of had the 6 wheeler constructor until the late 80s early 90s,last time i seen him was at Barrasford with his constructor im sure it was bought brand new it had an unpainted ali body and the cab was plain yellow white wings. He was on the coal at the same time that my dad drove that 8 wheeler 86 for fuzzy Gillander,Don Mesdon had a cream and brown 6 wheeler 86 on the job at the time,Deighton Bros had a couple of 8 wheeler fodens on the job and that was the same time Elliotts had that new 8 wheeler atki,

F7, The only firm that comes to mind from Cramlington that had tippers & used to sub for Fergy was Steven Laybourne & his dad Harry they had a couple of Faits that were Fergys then they had a couple of Big Js; then they had a 6wheeler F 86 a 6wheeler Riever & then two new Constuctors F regs ■■ Regards Larry, PS, I also remember Don Meston , he ended up running a milk delivery service at Boldon, Regards Larry

I know Holly Laybourne who I thin k would be Harry’s Grandaughter

Dunno what motors they had but they had a yard on Coopies Lane & I believe they took over what was left of Pentleton & Hare (there was certainly a connection) it was Norman Irving & Alex Scott the hay & straw man, the bank pulled the plug at a bad moment & it folded, still see Alex from time to time & regularly see his son Ian who runs a blue Daf 6 wheeler drawbar

2Diesels:
Always thought they were the nicest looking Fodens those, I wouldn’t be surprised if Morton’s still have theirs, he was knocking about on the vintage scene with a bright green Bedford RL with a crane on the back…it was a proper rough old thing though

mortons cleared out years ago nothing left

jeh:
mortons cleared out years ago nothing left

Well that does surprise me :open_mouth: I would have expected that place to be still full of stuff, I know it was last time I was in there but mind you that’s going back a bit

Yes thats who I meant. they pulled trailers with the pick ups, There was a connection with P/H. I heard the VAT man was the one that gave them some grief ? They also ran a yellow 4 wheeler Scania for a while, I think Brian Murdy drove it.Regards Larry.

tyneside:
I think the last motor Robson’s had was an ERF 8 wheel tipper. That must be 20plus years ago now. Any idea if Keith Robson is still around ■■?

Hello tyneside. We have an ex Robsons motor sat in our yard here at Kirkheaton. We bought the AEC Back in the late 80’s to replace our Dodge snow plough. She was only ever used half a dozen times at the most. HAK 928E is the reg number. I’l try and figure out how to post a picture of her. Dan Proudlock

A Classic Motor still at work every day. Still great to drive. Dan
