Are you moonlighting for VOSA over there Jim?? should be plenty Irish motors to keep you busy regardskevmac47
Yes I have seen it a few times at shows I must have been one of the last S36 model to be made, also the paint must have been good quality, anybody know who used to do them, Regards Larry
Gary , can you remember a Plymouth Driver at Fergys I think his name was Nigel ? he was a ERF fan he took photos of them wherever he went he also noted the chassis numbers, he could possibly be still working there, but I never see anyone to ask, they are all strangers except the odd one or two. Regards Larry.
Gary I have just been speaking to our Nigel, & he thinks the ERF fan was nicknamed the Kodak Kid, ? Regards Larry

The original driver Fred was up until a couple of years ago still driving for Ian & Graham at N.E.W. He told me he picked it up from the factory when it was new. I wonder why they hung onto it so long…it sat in a building at their Winship Street premises & had it’s windows put out, my mate went to see it years ago & I think it was Alan Douglass showed him round it & was very accomodating until suddenly he turned & said “Right you’ve seen it, I’ve told you all about it now £*$! off & dont ever ask about it again” very strange way to go on I always thought
I believe it went to Coatesy’s & Ross bought it from there & asked Douglass Bros if they wouldn’t mind if he kept their name on it as he couldn’t afford to have it painted, it would be nice to see it fully restored (back as original of course) but it is nice to see it as it is though the sign writing could do with a bit of a lift
Yes it would be very nice indeed to see it re-painted at signwritten again, they were popular wagons , Fergy had some at the same time with 680Leylands & 180Gardners,I ran a one myself in 1975 Ex BOC. wish now that I should have kept it. Also Selby Morton had a one. It was still in there garage 1976, when I bought one of their SEDAKIS. I wonder if it is still there ?. Regards Larry
Always thought they were the nicest looking Fodens those, I wouldn’t be surprised if Morton’s still have theirs, he was knocking about on the vintage scene with a bright green Bedford RL with a crane on the back…it was a proper rough old thing though
Can anyone remember another haulier from Morpeth Newgate Haulage Services, they had a Mercedes 50s60s era Plus O Elliott also of Morpeth, they had a S.Type Bedford with a Meadows Engine, & Im sure the driver was called Eddy Steel a red wagon.
Another old firm Robsons of Slaley , ran a mixed fleet in the old days Seddon, Thornycroft,Albion Ford Leyland ERF Sedakis, long gone sadley to say, has anyone got photos ■■?. I remember some of the old drivers, Bob [The Ghost],Darkey ? & then in later years Clive, Andrew.
I think the last motor Robson’s had was an ERF 8 wheel tipper. That must be 20plus years ago now. Any idea if Keith Robson is still around ■■?
The last I heard he had sold the garage and the land to a developer , which has now got houses on it,& I have not heard from anyone of his whereabouts, The last wagons they ran were two 6Wheeler Sedakis out of Moot Law, & Clive went to work for Dennis Connelly when Robsons packed in, if I see him I will ask him about Kieth. Regards Larry.

Newgate is before my time I think but I remember Olwyn Elliott though not the S Type, I remember a couple of Ford D-Series furniture vans & he or the son ran one of those little old tubular steel Mercs up & down to London. He was related to thye Elliotts who had the little tobacconists in Oldgate & also the Charabancs again before my time
Same Elliotts I would say, Eddy Steel who drove the S Type Bedford ended up at R.Elliotts in Coopies Lane as far as I know, along with Colin Towers who started up on his own , he had a yard at the Stobhill Rd. entrance beside the Station, Big Arthur Foggety drove for him on a Daf 8 wheeler tipper, you perhaps know Arthur he is retired now but he used to drive for Russells of Bathgate years ago, he used to get into the Con Club in Morpeth. Regards Larry
