I can remember them they were maroon, can you or anyone else remember a lad form Cramlington called Stephen Bamburgh, his cb handle was pretender, he had a 6 wheeler 86 tipper on the coal. He ended up with a new 6 wheeler constructor with a yellow cab, his son used to go with him in the holidays i think he was called Guy.

Tipping gears was owned by the Hazelhurst’s, the son was Patrick. He ran the place with his mam. Only knew her as Mrs Hazelhurst!! They closed some time ago and most of their staff went to work for Aliweld at Stargate.

Still old firms come to my mind ie, Hewitts of Morpeth a very old haulage Co, Tippers Pole Bogies for timber had Fodens Thornycrofts Leylands Thames Traders K1050 Dodge atic driven by a Polish Driver Bernard I think he was called never went home when the war finished, good grafter as I remember, Alec Hewitt retired at Fergys as did Harry Perverley Harry drove a Foden 2stroke and mind you he could make that thing talk, you could hear it long before it came into sight I had a sound all of its own, great, music to a drivers ears. So someone must remember them as I do & there must be some photos about somewhere. Regards Larry

Yea, Pendleton Hare Felton delivered derv to them along time ago, late 70s early 80s, irc they had a cafe where you drove into the yard,.Vic.

How about Harry Singh from Longhirst he had the little petrol station by the railway lines, I think he ran Fiats, I remember his place being full of old cars, or Trevor Strange from Newbiggin he apparantly just locked the doors one Friday night & all the stuff lay there for years until he died & Armstrong the coal/scrap man from Newbiggin cleared the place & got a LAD cabbed Albion, a Thames Trader (still loaded) a Commer Maxiload & a little Commer tractor unit with Scammell coupling plus a pile of Moggy Minor Vans & some other tat

I worked for Leyland Motors T V T E . as an apprentice fitter in the early 60s.Remember one day one of Harry Singhs drivers came in with a octopus with a miss on the engine. Driver said , Theres a box on the side of the engine with tubes comin oot of it & ones brrokkin. Turnend out to be an injector pipe. Bet harry was pleased it was an injector pipe & not a piston(had a good laugh about the box & tubes… Roy B Ryton.

You get some cracking “self diagnosis” from the drivers at times  we had a defect report from a driver that read “Dipstick not registering change in oil level” :grimacing: & a prize to the first one who can tell me what this driver was referring to when he filed this defect on a Transit “Lose bar at ead”

Birkleys of Felton Big Bart Thompson used to work for, Plus Felton Motor Co. I think they had a contract with Regent Oil Ltd ?, And as the years went by some of the Felton lads went on to work for Russell of Bathgate , Regards Larry.
