i remember the night edgar ridley got caught cheating at cards in brotherton club didn,t come in to normans for a while after that didn,t like the way he treated toby either
Aye Toby was a canny sort of a lad, Edgar lead him astray I think, when they had the two 6 leggers. I wonder what happened to young Toby, but of course he will not be so young any more? will he & old Edgar if he is still about is probabley a grumbley old so & so. Regards Larry.
Larry, you have dragged some memories up, first new the bob Riley and edgar, back in the late 50tys used to load them with sand at cresswell, when i worked for willy purvis, bob had some BMC tippers at that time, he then opened his own sand pit at cresswell, but the council closed it down has he didn’t have permission or a license to extract sand.in the 60tys they ran bedford s models with andy cap guys the fleet colour was nearly the same as john wools (cappy’s). can you remember when Stuart ridley went through the sparrow bridge just be for brampton, bob went to australia and left edgar in charge, that’s when they changed they colours to gray, he also got a 8 leg seddon about that time, when bob returned he took over again that’s when edgar started on his own, edgar past away 4years past Christmas, his son died a week later, that’s the last time i saw Toby, he is still kicking about think he is doing part time for some one at bells close. bumper ps are you turning out for drink and natter at the labour club

Yes it did belong to BOC. I bought it from Jimmy Monte at Fencehouse, he used to buy quite a bit of their gear. MET 547 G. loveley motor drive 52.mph. 22.Tonnes pay load as a tipper. 10mpg. used to go like trainup to Frazerburgh loaded with Spratts, I had a fold up bunk in it ran all over the place with tipper or flat cracking Foden I wish I had kept it. Cheers Larry.

Kev you could pop into the Labour club anytime between now and the “do” and leave me one in the pump and two or three in the optic Irish would be acceptable I could always become a convert and kill the taste with a drop of Scotch when I’ve troughed the freebies. Down the hatch.
thanks harry long retired.

I was going to agree with you Dennis but i can’t recall what noise a giraffe makes, ah well it looks like I’ll just have to ask the “old lady” for a sub, it is free booze in the Labour club for over 75s on that day but I’ll miss out you have to be accompanied by both grandparents.
thanks harry long retired…

That would be the Brinsworth,Rotherham BOC depot then,as ET was a Rotherham reg pre 1974.
Yes reg 1969. Based at Birtley Depot I bought one MET 457G. & Deighton Bros had its stable mate. 547/8 Im not sure which, It was a cracking motor thats when Fodens were proper Fodens, I replaced it with an S 80 what a dissapointing wagon that turned to be, sadly to say. Cheers Larry
