the lad with the beard was called stevie he was a driver but would help out in the garage.
i was self employed so used to do his maintenance at weekends or prepare them for mot during the week when required
forgot about the lt pick up he had did a couple runs to leith in that with transformer boxes also used to tip wagons and reload them on occasions

That was him but its years ago since i used to see him its that long ago my friends firm had a Iveco Turbostar on demonstration from Skipper Trucks Darlington it was on a J plate the lad who had it for the week was over the moon to get back in his 112 .Two more firms i recall were Robsons of Rookhope who had two Iveco rigids and a Foden artic and Tarren who used to run Leyland dropside tippers and a Foden dropside tipper these were all six wheelers but he bought a nearly new Leyland Constructor eight wheeler off Baileys and cut the body down and made it in to a flat i think it was a G reg but not too sure.
hi ttb

Blimey lads youâve got me racking my brains now about Cazaly, Iâm almost sure they had tippers, the lad that drove for them had been there a good few years and had a number of motors during that time, if I recall his name was Doug Lewins. At the time only my Dad and him parked their wagons in our stretch of the road and he never drove an artic during that time, I was hoping an old photo might stir the old memory cells again, Iâm amazed how some of you on here can remember some of the details you talk about as if it was yesterday.
Bumper I should be able to make the Labour Club this time, Iâm not working until the Holiday Monday so Iâll make sure all relatives are aware and wonât want me to be their taxi that night, see if Davey can make it too, be good to see him. The Owen Pugh International Harvester a few pages back could have been the one my old man drove but I know they had one or two of them, it was actually a nice little motor to drive and seemed to cope okay with tipper work, I cabbied it a few times myself and learnât about tipper driving although I never done it later on. Dad missed the general haulage work so went back to it after about Eight Months. I remember Pugh was a bit of an old sod though and kept a close eye on everybody. The drivers always serviced the wagons on saturday morning then. Cheers Franky.
hi lads, franky i think cazalyâs had a couple of 6 wheel Albion reiverâs that use to work out of the NCB brickyards at seghill and ashington delivering common bricks, this would be about late 50tys, jimmy wilkinson may know will try to get doc campbell to turn up for a drink as well, bumper
Cheers for that Jim, I seem to remember 6 wheelers but was sure I was struck at the time by a shiny new 8 Legger and would have said it was an Atkinson but Iâm doubting that now, Iâll ask my older Brothers but I doubt they would know the makes I was the only one who took an interest in wagons, wish Iâd had an interest in photography too then! See you on the day Jim, wonder if Woosh would know Cazalyâs history from the time he was there, on second thoughts! Franky.

stevie now works for todds road planners in darlington and the last i herd derek taylor was driveing a artic in house down the steel works at teesside only when there was a boat in
To split a hair Clark Taylor were also wholesale coal merchants. We got all our coal and coke via them.
Can you remeber the name of the guy who used run Cazalyâs.
tyneside, hi gazza 25 here, i think the lad that used 2 run cazaly,s was alan sutton ,he worked at htl (dfds) at the tyne then him and alan thornton came 2 work at fergy,s blyth when i worked there then b4 i left thornton went 2 work 4 malcoms at leeming and sutton retired at fergys i think sutton still lives at monkseaton ? cheers gazza25
Your right Alan Sutton did work for Cazaly, & when he came to Fergies he brought a lot of work with him ie. the bricks, he new the brick job like the back of his hand, He left Fergys because Alan Ferguson didnt like him now theres a surprise that tât only like himself. Alan the went to Waughys were he actuley worked there some years before --he was Transport manager at Baxters when Bob Kinghorn took over so thats the story how he was at Waughys, a good lad at his job, he came to Baxters when he left school took to the haulage straight awayâŚNow you mentioned the infamous Whoosh he went to Cazalys from Lowdons a Seaton Burn, in the 80s, so asking him would be negative. Regards Larry
If my memmory is correct still⌠Cazaly,s bought Albert Blakes haulage Co. He used to have a garage next to the Heaton Stannington Football Ground,I remember a driver called Billy Spowat had a Dodge artic in the 60s they moved the lot up to Brunswick depot. and im sure Billy was on a 4wheeler Dodge K.1050. painted Cazalys colours, his â â â â â â â â â â â â for his car still had his name on the wall for a long time after Cazaly,s finished I wonder if he is still about canny sort of a lad⌠Regards Larry
Thatâs the great thing about this site you wouldnât find out all sorts of info if a simple question wasnât asked in the first place, and somebody somewhere usually has the answer, Iâd like to see that Reiver pic Iain even if its not so good just to get my train of thought back in tune. I actually talked to two of my Brothers this afternoon about the lad who drove for Cazaly Bros and they were about as useless as me remembering until a bit of prompting and poking had us agreeing that at least we had the right name! Blimey hard work or what, wish me old man was still alive they were good mates and often blocked the road chatting to each other from the drivers window (not many cars then though!) Cheers guys Franky.
Well something has come to mind, Cazaly again;; I remember a 6 wheel Reiver standing at Baldersby Roundabout nearley all day once, the high load had it had on , slipped over to thte near side & the driver had to wait until they came to tranship or straighten it up I dont know what they did, A common site in those days loads leaning etc. there was a lot of bad packaging in those days. Another driver worked there in the 60s , Joe Burns he ended up at Murray Hoggs, he is retired now if I see him I will see if I can get more gen etc Cheers Larry
